80% ar lowers

I built an 80 percent lower. It really isn't cost effective. I got it in trade from a neighbor. It is nice to know that I have an AR lower that "doesn't exist." There are no serial numbers on it. I actually got two lowers and the jig. I ended up finishing one receiver and selling the other and the jig at a gun show for $60. The jig was the older type that you can't get receivers for anymore.

True finishing an 80% is expensive and a hassle. Heck I don't even have the right tools to do mine. All I got is a rickety little drill press that's not even really meant for working with metals. Slowly but surely it's coming along.
From some reading I've done. I'm coming to the conclusion that a router with an endmill in it would have probably been a better option than this POS press. Mental note for the future.

The thing is you get into finishing 80% lowers because you enjoy making your own gun. Or for really any reason other than trying to save money. Doing it to save money is like getting into reloading to save money. Not gonna happen.

If you think 80 percent receivers are fun, you should try building a Sten. I actually had a better time building my Sten then my AR and it is something you can't go into a gun store and purchase. I have one more to finish and then I might build an uzi.

This. But that's not a reason to avoid either, either ;)

Good heavens! Around here the fee is a high of 40.00, low of 20.00.
