I managed to find a 1lb jug of 800X last weekend at a gun show in Morgantown WV. Having never used it before I was a bit excited about loading some rounds for my 40S&W.

The only thing I can say at this point is that I hope it performs better than it meters. What a pain in the neck. :banghead: I put together 20 test rounds and will hopefully have a chance to get to the range later today.

I'm also hoping to have a report on some BE-86 rounds, but I digress. The best I could do was get the charge close with the 800X and trickle each charge to its finish. I hope it was worth the effort.

A tired "Old Squid."

It's kinda like metering corn flakes. It does fine out of my Chargemaster but wouldn't even try it out of my auto disk

I have not used 800X in the 40 S&W but it's reported to be a VERY good powder for that cartridge, if you can get past the poor metering you already know about.

I'm looking forward to the range report. Good luck...

results from a very cold trip to the range.
180gr FP over 800X.

I have had good success making a custom scoop out of a brass shell and wire then either filling it with epoxy or filing it to get the exact charge I want. Then practice scooping to get repeatable charges. When you get it figured out just scoop the loads and fill the brass up.;)

Great idea Frog0207! I'll have to give that a try. As previously mentioned by Gadawg88 it's like metering "corn flakes." LOL
Definitely worth the effort as I was able to shoot some nice 3-5 shot groups with the powder, right up until I couldn't hold steady on anything from the cold!!

X2 frog. I too use homemade scoops from casings to hand dip 800x. Have had great results in my M&P40 behind 165 & 180 PFPs. I enjoy loading and don't crank out a bazillion rds per her. Kinda therapeutic for me ;)

Really good groups!
I use 800x in 45ACP. I have almost 8 pounds of it and it works pretty well for 45ACP.
In this day and age with powder being harder to get than gold bars I use what I can find. I have read that it is best for 10mm and 40S&W. Meh, it still makes 230 grain plated bullets hit the paper!

Mark.

Tap the measure between powder drops and don't worry about +/- a tenth. 800x is one of the most versatile of all pistol/shotgun powders and decidedly NOT particular about low percentage variance in charge weights.

If you ever feel the urge to buy another powder measure, get a RCBS Uniflow. Several of us here use one for metering 800-X. For some reason, it works.

Haven't tried 800x yet, but in my Uniflow, 700x works best if I have the optional baffle in place. I also tap the handle a couple of times to settle the powder for each charge.

With my Dillon, I rubber band an aquarium pump to the hopper. It helps settle the powder in the charge bar so I get consistent drops. Should work for 800x as well.
