80's Winchester model 94 30-30

A buddy of mine gave me a 94...

I remember my '85 BSA 94-22 having a tight action, and smooth trigger.

I paid $100 for this. Well, we bartered and and am working on the payment plan.


The trigger is sloppy, and it won't strike the firing pin unless the lever action is pushed flush.

Its also rusted an pitted.


Any suggestions?

I was thinking steel wool and gun oil...for the rust/pitting.

I have no idea about the sloppy trigger and actions.

I also remember my bsa commemorative being able to mount a scope... while this one is a top eject. Not real concerned about a scope, but that would be nice too...figured I'de ask.

The wood is good.

Steer me in the right direction on the action/trigger, and rust/pitting and I'll be happy please.

That thing with the lever action needing to be pushed flush is a safety built into the gun. It's really not that bad of a thing.

OOOO steel wool and Rem oil. The trigger is supposed to be that way. Easy enough?

As others have said.
The pin in the bottom tang that contacts the lever when it is closed all the way is to insure the bolt is shut & locked before you can pull the trigger.
If you could pull the trigger with the lever partially open, the rifle could fire out of battery and blow your face off.

The floppy trigger is just the way Winchester 94's work, and is perfectly normal.

Thanks guys, I thought maybe it was worn out. I don't remember my 94-22 having a weeble and sloppy trigger, but maybe it did.. I haven't seen that gun in almost 10 years... Guess I'll give it a good cleaning, and try to get some of that hornady lever revolution and try her out.

The Winchester 9422 is a Winchester 94 30-30 in looks only.
Well that, and they are both lever-actions.

Completely different lockwork internally.
