Yea, its happening.

Picked up the 835 in Oct at a gunshow in Texas. Finally got to do some real shooting with it. Took it out dove hunting last weekend shooting
2 3/4" shells. Had about 1 in 5 light primer strikes.

It even happened to Blades67 with a 3 1/2" back at our THR shoot in Phoenix.

Shell was put back in and it went off.

Now, this is my first pump so maybe its me? Dont know for sure. I do notice that when I lock the mechanism forward and pull back a little on the fwd handle that the bolt drops just a fraction. Is this causing it?

I called Mossberg and they were more than willing to work it and promised a 15 day turn around so I think thats the route I'm gonna take.

Anyone have anything like this happen with a pump? I know its not the shells cause they shoot out of my Winchester 1400 without a hitch.

Most of the time light strikes are caused by grunge buildup. Either the hammer's not moving freely, or stuff is impeding the movement of the firing pin.

I'd spray both the TG and the bolt with gun scrubber, remove visible crud, then relube and try.

Failing that, use the warranty and let the pros handle it.

Soak the bolt in Kroil or in PB Blaster for a couple hours, then hose it out with high pressure air or if no compressor gunscrubber or non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Do the same for the trigger group. VERY lightly oil the bolt, nearly dry is the best. Oil only pivot points in the trigger group and again keep it light.

Most of the pump gun malfunctions I have seen over the years have been due to excessive lubrication slowing things down and/or that excessive lube hardening and/or trapping grit. Same scenario with autoloaders too. Keep the oil to a minimum, and when you need 100% function in a pump gun shoot it dry.

Suggest Mobil 1 5w-30 for pivot points and such, 15w-50 for bolt rails and carriers etc. $9 buys a lifetime supply of fantastic gun oil, better than any of the specific gun lubes I have ever tried for sure.

Will tear it down again and give it another go over. IT was pretty cruddy when I got it.

Cant seem to get the bolt assembly to come apart so I can pull the firing pin and spring out. Will give that another go in the morning.

If that dont work then off to Mossberg it goes.

Problem solved. Soaked it in some Hoppes solvent for a few hours.

Cleaned her up and oiled it down. Took it out to the desert and shot around 20 shells with no light strikes.
