I was hoping someone could give me some tips on installing a front Trijicon sight on my Remington 870 barrel. Im pretty sure ill just go with the epoxy as I dont think it will come loose. Silver solder just seems like an over kill to me.

My question is, do I just glue it and kinda "eye it" on how straight it should be? Or is there a method to getting it dead nuts straight?

Thanks and hope to hear from you all soon!!

Isn't there some way to screw it on? I am not sure what sight/barrel you have, but my advice with the info you've given would be to drop it off at a gunsmith's shop. If you already have the sight it shouldn't be expensive to install.

Post some pics of your barrel and the sight, or a link to along with what specific model 870 you have and I am sure you can get some answers. For now, I would step away from the epoxy...

If it's a bead sight, Trijicon makes a screw-in version. Shouldn't cost more than $10-15 to get the hole drilled and tapped for it (current Remington beads are pressed in and you can't just back out the existing bead).

I'd not trust just epoxy to hold on a shotgun sight... YMMV of course.

I installed one on my 870 express 6 or 7 years ago. The express model has a pedistal with the bead on top of it. If I remember correctly, I cut off the bead and the Wilson/Trijicon front sight fit right over the pedistal. It should be straight if the pedistal is straight.

Now, I just wish that Trijicon sold the 20 gauge version of the sight like they do the 12 gauge version. I think you can only get the 20 gauge version from Wilson.

Ive heard the bead sight just unscrews from the pedestol? So did you end up glueing or soldering it?

The 870 Express model has a pressed in bead. I don't know about regular 870s. I cut the bead off of the pedistal with a hacksaw prior to installing the epoxied-on scattergun tech/trijicon front. When I bought the sights, they were a 'kit' with the sights, epoxy, jig for drilling the reciever holes, and tap. I just epoxied the front. Some people drill and pin them on as well.

The sight is supposed to be added to the silver soldered base that wingmaster shotguns have the bead screwed into. If it does not have a rraised rectangular base with scallops cut in the front and rear of the base, it has nothing to hold on to. Wilson also then drills a hole through both and roll pins it on in addition to the glue.

Abner, have you had any problems with it falling off? And about how many shells have you ran through it?

The 870 Police was the same way. I knocked the bead off with a dremel, prepped the area, and just epoxied mine on. I knocked it over one day and it fell to the concrete, taking a nice chunk out of it. The concrete, that is.

Sold it last year, can't really remember how many rounds I fired through it after putting on the site. Couple hundred mostly birdshot probably 50 slugs and buck. For what it's worth, I read on one of the boards that Wilson doesn't pin the sights now either, just uses the epoxy.

When I did this I bought a screw-in tritium bead and had a gunsmith drill and tap the barrel. $20, IIRC. Then I threaded in the bead until it stopped, backed up it to the point where it was aligned correctly, and used blue tape to mask the barrel.

Remove bead. Mix epoxy. Apply a small amount around the drilled tapped hole. Screw bead in again, stopping when aligned. Remove tape and with it, excess glue.

Let sit for 12 hours or whatever the recommended time frame is, then clean up the inside of the barrel.

It's been good for 3 years and a couple hundred rounds.
