I was looking for some info. @ Gander Mt. yesterday, and I'm not sure, but what the gunshop guy told me just seemed all wrong. First, he said that the choke of a 1960"s 870 Wingmaster barrel is not in the end of the barrel, but really extends down about 1/2 way to 2/3rd's of the way down the barrel. He said that if I wanted to have the barrel reamed out to Skeet bore (not put in variable chokes) a gunsmith would have to ream it out 1/2 way to 2/3rd's of the way down. He also said you can't just cut the end of the barrel off to get to open choke, but that it would have to be reamed the same way.
Next, he told me that the new barrel I was looking at in a box marked Remington 870 Wingmaster wouldn't fit a 1960's 870 Wingmaster because, he said, the receivers are all different. Can anyone clarify if this guy is all wet?
thanks,
