Hi Guys,

In late winter I installed a SureFire forend and a 2-shot magazine extension on my 870 P. I'm not sure, but I'm feeling like the front end may be a bit too heavy to move around easily in a home defense situation. Because of the forend, I've had to move to a side-mounted sling loop, so the light doesn't run into the sling every time I rack the slide.

I'm interesting in trying the gun out without the 2-shot extension, as it is rather heavy, but I want to keep the SureFire forend installed. This would necessitate having a magazine cap that would allow for a left-side sling attachment. I haven't found any with anything but the normal sling swivel stud. So, I'm considering buying these products:

magazine cap
sling loop mount adapter

Does anyone out there know enough about these products, or similar types, that they can say if these will work together? Can the sling mount adapter fit onto the magazine cap's "dent" as it would with a shot extension? I'm also open to alternative sling mounting methods that would allow the sling to be on the side of the shotgun, where the SureFire forend's light won't run into it.

Thank you all in advance.

im new to 870s and clones but from my experience the dent only applys to extended mag tubes.......why not, js not put all possible ammo in the tube? and also if its for home defense why not use a single point sling? and check the review on that sling adapter its nt ambidextrous as stated

The sling adapter that fits between the cap and the barrel support ring has been made by several different companies.
They seem to work well, but do take up some of the thread room for the cap.
If you use an extension with one of these, using a barrel clamp is a MUST to add more support.
With a standard magazine, these don't seem to be any kind of problem.

They are designed to work best with the original type of Remington magazine system, but will work well on the Express gun.

Since you have a Police model, you need to be sure to get an old style magazine cap. The Express type cap will tend to vibrate loose since it uses the new style magazine system.
My first move would be to ask around the local gun shops to see if they have an old style cap laying around.
If not, order a new or used one from Gun Parts Corporation, or a new one from Brownell's or Midway.

The new style cap has a series of "dimples" around the outer wedge of the cap to interlock with the plunger on the barrel support ring.

Also, order an old style magazine spring retainer and a standard length magazine spring.
The spring retainer is a black steel "spring cup" that fits into the magazine tube and holds by friction. Install it cup side DOWN.
