I have a Police 870 that I have modified for HD. I have the perfunctory side saddle, Surefire light forend, MMC ghost ring sights (tritium front sight), etc.

I added a Wilson Combat +1 magazine extension with side sling mount (for left handers) to the shotgun. With one barrel, the side sling mount is tight against the barrel with no movement. With my other barrel, it has some play back and forth.

Can I cause any problems by using the side sling mount with a little play back and forth? I thought about this possibly loosening up the mag extension, but I have it on tight and it does not appear that it will loosen up.

Just want to make sure I am not going to cause a problem that I have not thought of and I am really not sure why a difference would exist as both barrels are Remington 18.5 barrels, one is just an older version that I have recently gotten parkerized. That is the one I currently have on the 870.

Thanks,

WJR

Anybody have this same thing happen?

Basically, the sling mount part of the Wilson combat extension is not tight against the barrel. Therefore it has some side to side play.

Is this okay or should I not use the extension with this barrel?

Thanks for any help. I just want to make sure I am not overlooking something.

I put these http://www.botachtactical.com/gggshotslina.html on my 870 and they fit tight against my 18" barrel and 32" bird barrel. They also sell one that attaches at the back of the receiver. My guess is the side-to-side play might markup the barrel, but not sure about loosening the mag tube. I never really understood the ghost ring sight on a shotgun. Not that it's a bad idea, but shotguns were made to point shoot not really aim. How do you like it on the 870?

Thank you for the response. That was pretty much what I figured.

I think I am going to get my other barrel refinished and put it back on since it fits with the mag extension better.

I wonder if older barrels were a little thinner than the newer ones?

Go shoot it. After a few hundred rounds, you'll know what the sling will do under real world conditions.

Personal preference, that's all. I'm just now getting into scatterguns, and find I like both fine. I decided to order my 590 with them. In a SHTF situation, I will most likely be lining the barrel up on the goblin anyway and not using the sights at all, but I do like having them anyay.

To each his own.
