I think I promised to write this some weeks ago. I picked up a really nice used (nearly new) 870 Wingmaster 12 ga with 30" full vent ribbed barrel at the gun show in Tulsa in April. The purpose was to have a dedicated turkey gun. I struck out the first few times I set up and tried to call a turkey. On the last trip I had located my blind near where I saw them fly down from the roost. Set up my 3 decoys well before daylight and waited with my buddy. A pair of hens were attracted to the decoys and commenced clucking. Since real birds are better than fakes, I didn't call at all. Within a few minutes of the hen arrival the toms bailed off the roost and flew directly toward us, landing right in front of us in the middle of our decoy spread. Within 15 second we had killed our limit of 3 turkeys; I had two tags and my buddy had one. My second shot was a bit longer, maybe 40 yards, with Winchester #5 magnums 2.75". He dropped as hard as the first one that was half that distance. The 870 paid for itself in a single hunt. Love that shotgun. First double I've ever shot.

Congratulations on your turkeys, good to see that an 870 with a fixed full choke can still deliver the magic :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
