Hi all.

Considering a Remington 870 Marine Magnum.

YES, I've done a search, but I just wanted to start a new thread seeking the experiences of those who actually own them.

YES, I know that it does the same thing as a cheaper blued/parked 870, but I'm a form guy as well as function. :)

Translation: That MM is SWEET looking.

Let me know your experiences with this thing.

Thanks!

As most others will state, the Marine functions the same as the regular 870, so...

As far as experiance, well, hmm, it shoots just like the many other 870's I've shot. Oh, get it wet and it isn't likely to rust. ;)

One TOUGH finish. The plating has worn off of the Extractor recess in the barrel and THAT'S IT! The plating makes the whole gun smoother but brighter in the sun. Easy to clean by just wiping down the surfaces and lubing conservatively in a few spots. If you're looking for low maintenance and don't mind the glare when you shoot, go for it.

Opinions, experiences please!

Opinion: The Marine magnum is one beautiful looking shotgun. Never shot it, but it felt like a well built shotgun. Smooth action, seemed like quite a durable finish. I figure it'd shoot like any other 870. Very well. :D

Experience: 5%. Since I held it and played with the action.

Regardless I'm sure you'll get a whole boatloads of "go for it!" including this post.

Go for it! :p

slugs?

What kind of accuracy are people getting with a smooth bore 18" barrel out to 50 yards? I know it may seem far for self defense but just wondering compare to over barrel types or other models.

With my MM, I was able to hit a 6" metal disk at 30 yards in competition consistently with slugs. I can hit an IPSC silhouette at 100 yards with about 80% accuracy with slugs based on my last outting. Of course, several of the misses were in determining what the ranging was in regard to the drop. At 100 yards, I was aiming well above the target to hit it dead center. My accuracy doesn't reflect the gun's abilities.

I got the MM for the finish, but not for the looks of the finish as I don't particularly like the look. I liked the idea of having a gun I could load up and let sit for years without worry of it rusting up like a blued gun. I could have gotten a blued gun as I shoot the MM more than expected and so it gets fairly regular cleanings.

Mine is slightly customized personally. I added a Surefire pump grip light, youth stock, and receiver end plate sling attachment from MMM.

It may just be an 870, but an 870 is a solid platform and the nickel finish is really tough!

I am pretty sure, if my memory serves me correctly, that is is made out of plastic. Wouldn't look too bad if ya took some Krylon to it.

With slugs my Benelli Nova SP (18.5" with ghost rings) reliably hits center mass on silhouettes at 100 yards every time and does head shots on demand if I take care (Nova has a rather heavy trigger).

Remington 870 Marine Magnum

The "cream of the crop" in Remington's line of pump action
shotguns. We got ours NIB in December of 2000 for the blowout
price of $379.88 + 8% sales tax. We have not had a minutes
trouble with fit or finish. Actually, my daughter picked this one
out as one of her Christmas presents for 2000!

Best Wishes,

So when Remington says
"Will not accept law enforcement accessories."

They just mean side saddles, because of the forend, right? You could still but a new stock, or a surefire forend on it?
