A friend has a 1952-vintage .12 Ga. Wingmaster, minus the bbl. for sale, for which he's asking $100. It has a walnut stock and the older style ringed fore-end, of which I'm quite fond. The gun shows honest-wear but has not been abused. The finish is around 90% and the stock has some small dings but is not cracked. Add a bbl.........it's ready to go. Is this a good price? I like old Wingmasters. 'Much better workmanship than the newer ones. Thanks.......

Get it.

Barrels are easy to pick up, and the lack of 3" Maggie Numb capability will not handicap you for most shotgunning. Replacement barrels run from 18" police turnins to new long barrels with choke tubes to one of Hans Vang's well made but costly customs.

This sounds like a great candidate for a makeover. You could build a nice practical shotgun, an upland gun, a target shotgun, or whatever depending on choice of barrel, choke and ammo. Or, all of the above for a GP shotgun of modest price but great versatility.

I like the ringed forend too.

I would buy that in a freakin' HEARTBEAT . Do not hesitate, go get it. I will give the $100 for it if you don't want it.

Prices on a used barrel run $50 for a police 18 or 20 inch to $100 for a good used (typically express) barrel to about $150 to $200 for a factory new barrel.

If you shop, you can always do a little better.

For a 50's era Wingmaster receiver that sounds like a fair deal.

I just picked up an old Wingmaster that sounds similar to this one. It has the smaller ringed fore end, IC choke and appears to have been fired very little and just stored away. I got it for $152 from a store having a sale on all guns.

Is there any way I can find the date of manufacture of this?

Thanks,
Steve

I agree that it's a good price. Although I'm second in line, I'd take it in a heartbeat (got more 870 barrels than receivers right now...:D )

Best regards,
