I was helping my In-Laws clean out their house cause they are moving into a Nursing home Apartment. He has a 20+ year old Rem 870 Wingmaster Magnum That is Brand new never fired in a nice hard case. It has a 30" Barrel with a vent rib.

What is a decent estimate for what it is worth.

Also he has a beat old Rem mod 10 with a butchered stock and decent fore arm. What is some of the development history of the mod 10 and what would it be worth. Is a Mod 10 the precursor of the Ithaca mod 37???

870 wingmaster price?

Mod 10 price???

Mod 10 history???

Can't tell you what prices would be, but the Model 10 with a butchered stock is worth scrap value for the metal. Stocks are impossible to find for any reasonable price and they are fragile characters.

As for it having any relationship whatsoever to the Ithaca 37, it does NOT. The Model 10 is not a sound shotgun. It's not reliable, not durable, and certainly not a good design. As for price, I wouldn't pay anything for it. Seriously. I remember seeing a gunsmith at a gun show with 10 broken Model 10's that he could NOT fix. He was selling them all together for $100 or something low like that. CRAP, CRAP, CRAP.

The Wingmaster might be worth in the area of $350 depending on grade, wood type, choke, and how the gun looks. Brand new to one person might not be 'brand new' to another. You should expect to pay less because it's been owned for the last 20 years, more because it's a magnum gun, and more because the guns were just made better back then, simple as that. I think that $350 is a fair ballpark price though.

$300-350 for the WM if in perfect shape.

Not much at all for the 10. Little or no collector interest. The model 31, though, is getting some attention.

The Model 17, only made in 20 gauge, was the precursor of the Othaca 37. No common points with the 10 besides the name.

HTH...
