I have an 870 express magnum 20 gauge w/3" chamber. Is it possible to place a barrel chambered for 2 3/4" shells on a magnum receiver? Of course it would only be shot with 2 3/4" shells with that barrel on it.

I couldn't find my answer in my search so can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Yep. The gun will work fine with 2 3/4" shells- as long as that's all you use in that barrel.

Do keep in mind, though, that Remington has used two different receiver sizes in its 20 gauge guns. Originally the 12, 16 and 20 gauges were all made on the same frame size- 12 gauge. Your 20 ga. barrel will have to fit the 20 gauge frame in order to interchange properly on your Express gun (serial number ending in U, unless something's been going on I don't know about).

Serial number ending in N = 3" 20 ga. 870 w/12 ga size receiver

Serial number ending in X = 2 3/4" 20 ga.870 w. 12 ga. size receiver

Serial number ending in K = 2 3/4" 20 ga. 870 on 20 ga. size receiver

Serial number ending in U = 3" 20 ga. 870 on 20 ga. size receiver

hth,

Yes my serial number ends in U, so I should be good to go with using 2 3/4" only in that barrel. Thank you for your responses, I really appreciate the info!
