Thinking about getting left-hand 870 for HD, but all they seem to have is the 26" - 28" Express model and barrels. Is a 18.5" barrel not available for the left hand action 870 or am I just not looking in the right place? I used to have an 870 Express that I knew I could shoot 2-3/4" and 3" shells. I saw one the other day that just said "Remington 870", not Express or Express Magnum. It had the laminated stock, 3" shells OK in that? Thanks in advance.

Have you contacted Remington Parts about a left handed reciever?

Maybe you can find a gun you like and simply swap recievers to throw the shells to the other side. (Your left side?)

Sorry if I confuse you, Im a right hander but brother was a lefty.

Check the barrel to see what size the chamber is- it'll be stamped on the left side of the barrel about 6" toward the muzzle from the front edge of the receiver.

If it's marked for 3" shells that's half the game- you need a magnum receiver to shoot 3" shells as well as a 3" chamber in the barrel. Look at the last letter in the serial number- if it's an M, it's a magnum receiver (12 gauge). If it's a V, it's a 12 gauge 2 3/4" receiver. The only difference as far as the receiver is concerned is the location of the ejector.

Corson's ( http://www.corsonsbarrels.com/ ) lists a few 20" rifle sight smoothbore 12 gauge barrels for the left hand 870. Kinda pricy ($250) but all the spare barrels for the LH guns seem to be. Barrel Exchange ( http://www.barrelexchange.com/index.cfm ) doesn't list any short barrels. Take a look around the web, and see if any more turn up, but I have a feeling there aren't a lot of spare LH 870 barrels out there... 'course, all you need is one, right?

hth,
