870 Shell Latch - repair

I think I have to replace the shell latch on my 870 20gauge on the ejection port side. When the shells are in the mag tube, the shell latch looks like it's bent inwards and is jamming the shells in the mag tube.

How hard is it to replace the shell latch?

Hey LB99 -

You can replace the latch for $10 for a new latch from MidwayUSA, if your a DIY'er ( like over and over) you would want the shell latch tool. Either the cheaper one from MidwayUSA for $25 on sale right now, or the perfect tool from Bownells. It's like $ 65 I think.

You can use a punch, but it is kind'a difficult, so after doing it twice I got the cheaper tool from Midway the other day.

Thanks friedcheese - All I needed to hear was - special tool - and I'm out. I'll take it to a smith.

I like extra tools and fixing things, but I don't expect to use the tool more than once, and - this will be my HD gun so I want it to be perfect.

Like I said - if the metal is there, try a punch to drift the metal across.
