I was thinking about a surplus rifle, namely either an m91/30 or a Yugo Mauser. I know there are some deals to be had for 8mm (Century Arms has greek ball, 750 rds for $45, and some others).
Will this supply dry up, and if so, how soon?
Everything dries up, eventually. Doesn't look like 8x57 or 7.62x54R is going to be scarce for the next decade, at least, unless we get screwed over by the Feds. Again.
Turk ammo in clips and 70rd bandoliers is almost cheap enough to use to gravel your driveway with.
My advice is to buy the rifle you like, hoard some surplus ammo if you are worried about the availability, and then enjoy! Strike while the iron is hot. . .
