The ammo famine is making me sad. Does anyone know of a place where I can get some reasonably priced 8mm Mauser ammo? I've been rolling around on a few of the ammo websites and local gun shops and the only ammo I can is either the super-duper expensive stuff that's like $2.50 per bullet or the 1,000 round cases of Persian Ammo that comes with a special warning about hangfires, duds, etcs. I'm trying to find some half-way reasonably priced ammo (around .85 to 1.25 per round) for my Mauser and I am having very little luck in my endeavor to find bullets.

Thanks!!

If you can find Prvi it is usually inexpensive, and to be honest with you it shoots as well as anything I have tried in the older Mauser cartridges, brass is A+ too if you plan on reloading.

Here's another vote for Prvi. I love the stuff in 7x57 and 6.5x55. By far the best ammo for the cost out there for the European cartridges. Way better than the Remington or Winchester stuff that I've tried. Sellier and Bellot is also pretty good stuff, but not as nice as Prvi. S&B is loaded a bit hotter though, good hunting ammo.

You should check out TexasGunTrader. There's always guys selling 8x57 ammo on there, some of it is pretty good stuff for decent prices.

Up until six months ago (before I sold the Husqy) I was getting 15 round boxes of decent late 50's Yugo corrosive stuff for $4.95 a box at Ammo Brothers. May wanna check them out. They have two stores in So Cal...

+1 for Prvi Partizan. It's my go to manufacturer for those calibers where the surplus has dried up. I've never been disappointed yet.

Cheap WWII surplus stuff for Mausers has gone away for good, but even during the current ammo drought, I've seen 8mm. 7mm, and 6.5mm Mauser ammo by both Remington and Privi on the shelves at Academy Sports, Gander Mountain, and Bass Pro Shop. It's not the $6 per hundred that the old surplus corrosive ammo used to sell for, but it's not all that expensive, comparatively speaking, with other commercial ammo, especially if you save the brass and reload it.

Maybe it's just where I'm at, but at Academy when I went in looking for 8-mm Mauser the guy behind the counter looked at me like I was insane, and both Cabela's and Cheaper than Dirt said they were completely out of 8-mm and did not know when it would be back, the guy at Cabelas even asked why I bought a rifle that fired such an 'uncommon and rare' bullet (8-mm may not be super popular, but it certainly ain't rare IMO). I guess I'll just have to keep a sharp eye out for Prvi or some of the cheaper stuff until this political stuff blows over (hopefully), 'cause there's no way I'm spending $2.50 a round to go target shooting. I really wanna find out where my M24/47 Mauser shoots before I go Boar hunting in a few weeks, and I certainly don't wanna be limited to the 14 rounds I have currently when I do go out hunting Boar.

Oh and I live in the North of Texas, near DFW!

And does anyone know what distance the Yugoslavs sighted their Mauser 24/47s in at? I've heard some people say 300 meters, 200 meters and few more numbers out there during my various searches.

I have thousands of rounds, if your ever out by the Gun Barrel city area just let me know ill let you try some.

Bud gave me just a few 8mm rounds so off I went to find one. Now have 4 or maybe 5 and looking for ammo. Picked up some S&B and a box of Win. but that is my only Boxer brass. Have just a bit of Berdan and am looking for more. Thanks for the tip on Previ and will check with them.

Well I have some original WWII German ammo that looks like its new I would sell to you for .75 a round.

$0.75 a round for corrosive WWII 8mm Mauser Surplus? Talk about price jacking! I knew times were tight, but I didn't realize that we'd gotten to highway robbery levels...

Thompson, Prvi should be back on the shelves soon, most folks are saying April. Hold out, and spend your 75 cents a round on Boxer primed, brass case, non-corrosive, new production, soft point hunting ammo. Trust me, it's worth the wait.

Prowl around on TexasGunTrader in the meantime. There's usually at least one person selling a couple of boxes of commercial ammo on there. I haven't been into an Academy, Cabelas, or Gander Mountain since this scare started that didn't have boxes of 7x57 and 8x57 Mauser still on the shelf. I bought some Sellier & Bellot 175grn soft point 7x57 on sale down in Buda last month for a better price than he's asking for that surplus. Be patient, you'll come across some good stuff.

Hey I'm not twisting anybody's arm and hey I'm even offering to let him shoot some first plus he might want some collector ammo to boot.

So I guess mind your own business we are all adults here.

Ultimately let the free market take its course I have had the ammo for a while now keep it or sell it I won't get my feelings hurt.

I sure as heck hope so. And goodlistener, as much as I would like to come out and relieve of some of your ammo, but I just got denied by my parents to go out and look at your bullets, sorry man. I just wish I was 21 so I could actually take advantage of some of these deals you can find online, but unfortunately I'm not, so I'm limited to stores. I'll check my local Academy and Cheaper than Dirt again and they'll hopefully have something at least versus last time I went.

Sorry, I'm not going to sit by and watch somebody get taken complete advantage of because they're too young and new to the hobby to know any better. I don't know what its "collector" value is, but its shooter value is just about zero for what he wants to do. Much better ammo available for the same price.

I don't know the old ammo I have is pretty nice ammo for surplus I mean I bought some 90's surplus Yugo that is corrosive that may equal the German ammo in my opinion. Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

I don't feel that I was taking advantage of anyone I offered to meet up with him and give him some ammo for his hog hunt that he mentioned in his thread but he has pride and would not accept it.

Okay, everybody, let's all be nice here, I don't want anybody getting into a fight on my behest, I'm just looking for some bullets, let's all be friends here, please.

Goodlistener, seeing as I'm still 18, in high school and under my parents roof, I ultimately have to answer to them (I told you that already) seeing as they put a roof over my head, feed me, provide me with a car, cellphone, gasoline and are paying for my college. It isn't a matter of 'pride' as you put it. I would have been willing to buy at least a few bullets if my parents said okay to it, but they are my parents and I still answer to them. As I said above, I just need more than 14 rounds of ammunition by next weekish so I can find out how many meters my rifle is ranged in at so I can help my cousin get rid of the boars that are tearing up their property.

Thank you all.

BTW, anybody know what range my M24/47 is sighted at? I'm pretty sure it's gonna be around 300 meters, but I wanna be sure, I probably won't have a whole lot of ammo to practice with.
