I know it will not be that simple, but does anyone know if an 8x56 MS can be successfully rechambered to 8x57 Mauser? I know the rim and are slightly different in size, but will the chamber clear?

I am still researching online but this is one of my resources...Thanks.

NEVER MIND.... I just found out the bullet diameter difference. .006 is just a little to much to fudge...

IIRC, the chamber will clean up, and the barrel dimensions (land and grove) are OK for the 8x57JS. But the normal cartridge overall length of the 8x57 is longer than that of the 8x56, so bullets might have to be seated deeper than optimum for the 8x57. (Depends on the magazine; some makers used the same magazine, but some of the rifles with the Schoenauer rotary magazine were tight.)

Found this link that might be helpful, the poster Creosote at the bottom of the posting talks about using 8x57 brass in the 8x56 MS. He notes that the close fitting of the MS rotary magazine is the main problem with an easy conversion.

According to this, Chuck Hawks notes that the bullet diameter of .323 is the same for the MS versus its 8x57 cousin. http://www.chuckhawks.com/8x56mmMannlicher.htm

Are you talking about the 8x56r Mannlicher round? It is not the same as the 8x56 MS as it uses a .329 bullet diameter.
