It just was announced on the 5:30 new break on FOX that a NYC police officer was attacked in Times Square by a man shooting at him with a gun. The Officer defended him self with a Glock 19 and FMJ 115 grn ball issued ammunition. The attacker is dead and the officer is unhurt.

Here's one for the good guys and that under rated 9 mm bullet!

Yeah, they switched to JHP's (Gold Dots, I believe) back in 1999, if memory serves.

I thought NYPD had upgraded to hollowpoints one or two police commissioners ago.
Now they need to upgrade their public information services as well. I was only repeating what I was told by them. Regardless, the BG is Dead and the cop is ok and 9mm saved his day.

When I wore a badge up there I was limited to 158 grn lead only ball ammo in a S&W model 10. Glad to see things have changed.

"THE 9MM IS NOT A MAN STOPPER"

I have heard that from so many "experts" it is not funny. In fact, it is bull!

The new 9mm J H P ammo ( especially Gold Dot ) is killer stuff.

Don't ever think you are under gunned with a 9mm.

And the "experts".....well, they are just WRONG. :neener:

158 grn .38 spl LRN (ahem, aka modern day "target" loads) will still get 'em dead pretty good with good shot placement. ;)

I can't find mention of police use a Glock Then NYPD web site say officers have a choice of 3 Glock S&W SIG so could have been any one of 3 The BGhad a Mac 10 and it jammed after 2 rounds (thats normal) and was stolen out of Richmond Va. Gee Mayor will make headlines with that
One article said suspect fought with officers after being shot Died later at hospital.

The likely round used by the bad guy is a 9MM too, and didn't stop anyone. Therefor the original premise is irrational. A .25 in the head will stop almost anyone with two legs.

Pappy, I think you're forgetting the real tool of sheepdogs in the know: the suppressed 22lr.

Fired over the edge of a tactical wheelbarrow... Now that's a manstopper.

What's funny is nowadays listening to all these "experts" (gun media) swallow crow and extol the virtues of mousegun calibers like .380 and .32acp because that's what manufacturers are introducing and they have to tow the advertising dollar line.......But you can just see it in their face

Ho hum.

First: I guess we haven't had a "Merits of the 9mm cartridge" thread in several days, so maybe we were about due. Same, tired stuff, guys.

Remember, there's a difference betrween a cartridge being a "Good stopper" and simply being lethal. A .22 LR will certainly cause death but there's frequently little immediate fall-down-dead-rat-there behavior. OTOH, even a .22 or a .25 ACP will touch Central Nervous System, with immediate incapacitation.

I'm a great fan of big bore pistols, as theoretical fight stoppers. But even I realize that a solid 9mm service pistol, loaded with modern ammo (Yeah, Gold Dot 124 is some of the best) and used by a well trained person will usually do the job well. If you have several thousand (35,000 in NYPD) armed individuals to train and periodically qualify, then the issue 9mm Glock, S&W, or SiG would be a good choice for reliability, economy, and ease of training.

Second: Personal feuds, while interesting, have no place in this forum, nor elsewhere on THR. I don't know, and care less the history of the dispute. If you make it public her, you won't be here for long. If you notice your post has been deleted, then THIS IS YOUR WARNING. Keep it up, and you'll need to find somewhere else to participate.

This topic is pretty weary anyway.

CLOSED.
