IDPA junkie in DFW, TX
It was just under 90 days ago that I shot my first IDPA match. Since then I have made a lot of new acquaintances and learned quite a bit. I've shot 1-2 matches a week and have been driving my wife crazy with the whole thing. She has however been supportive and quick to point out the blistering pace our bank balance has dropped. But, I explained it by telling her that the shooter with the lowest number is the winner. If you think she bought that line, I have a bridge that might interest you.

I joined the IDPA unclassified and have been shooting in CDP class. As of today I am classified and next week my wife and I are going to Friendswood for the TX State IDPA championship. This will be my first officially sanctioned match and there will be 100+ very experienced shooters there so my only expectations are to have fun, learn all I can and meet some of the Houston folks.

Anyone here also making the trip?

HV,
Exactly when is this Houston area IDPA match and where? I don't get involved in competitive shooting myself, but since I live in Houston, I sure would like to go and have a looksie!

Shot my first match and joined IDPA in March. I am just as hooked.

I will be shooting Saturday, Novice CDP as well.

Hope to see you there HV.

Shooting any pistol game is a ton of fun!! I started shooting USPSA a littlle over 2 years ago and haven't been able to stop ever since. I do really want to start shooting a few IDPA matches they look like a lot of fun.

What kind of gun are you using?

Sturm, I'm shooting in CDP division SS class with a Springfield 1911.
I spent a good part of yesterday getting some one on one coaching from a very experienced shooter and shot several hundred rounds practicing. Will it help me? I don't know but figured it couldn't hurt.
Then I came home, detail stripped my Springfield and cleaned/inspected every single part. Yes, I am test firing it today to make sure I put all the parts back in. Then a couple hours dry practice.
Capped the day off by watching the Magnificent Seven on DVD with MrsHV.

There's going to be a pretty good showing from my local club "Cross Timbers IDPA", at least 4 that I know of are making the trip. www.dfwshooters.org

Jeremae, I am in Squad 2 on Saturday. I'll probably look like half the folks there (khaki shorts and vest) so just look for MrsHighVelocity and I'll be in proximity. (she's tall, thin, long red hair, taking a lot of pictures);)

I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow HighRoaders and as well as folks from www.texaschlforum.com

If you don't know about the Texas CHL forum, head over there and sign up. Great bunch of folks and a couple of threads going about this weekend as well. My handle there is the same as here on THR.

I just got back to DFW and I am beat. It was an awesome match and many kudos to all that made it happen.

My performance was less than stellar but I had a great time and learned a lot.

Three things I learned

1) I cannot count without using my fingers
2) Non threat targets don't get double taps to the head
3) It's not enough to listen to the course description, I actually need to follow it when I'm shooting.

There will be a lot of dry fire practice and many local matches for me between now and this time next year.
I will be back.
