Why is it that all 147gr FMJ is flat nose/meplat? All the 115 and 124 FMJ stuff is standard ball. Just was wondering as I was going though my ammo.
 
Depends on the load used.

147 is a LOT of lead and it all cant be shoved in the case eating up case space and raising pressures.
 
If you utilize a flatpoint bullet, more of the bullet can be forward of the case without exceeding overall cartridge length. As mentioned above, containing too much of the bullet inside a 9mm case will lead to excessive pressures due to reduced powder and combustion capacity in the case. It is a delicate trade off in the 9mm, as bullet nose variations can lead to feeding problems in different guns.

I think it depends on who makes the bullets and what load they want.
