I recently purchased a Sig Pro 2022 - 9mm. I am now looking for some ammo for it. I have heard that the Winchester 115gr 9mm in the white box is not very good. What are your experiences with different makes of ammo and where can i buy some in bulk at a reasonable price?

Win white box at Wal-Mart or Rem UMC are good plinking ammo but some people say they are a little dirty to shoot. Wolf ammo is the cheapest but I don't recommend this steel case ammo for breaking in a new gun and it's very dirty. Win, Rem, Federal, Speer etc. make higher grade ammo for LE and personal protection and I do have some for home protection but not for plinking. Make sure you shoot some to make sure it feeds ok in your gun. As far as buying bulk ammo for a good price, try Wal-Mart first and maybe Sportman's guide online. I don't think there are really good deals on ammo anymore so I recommend you save your brass and maybe one day start reloading.

wwb is great and there is no reason that you should hesitate from buyig it. i have had zero issues in the many many 1000rds that i have shot of it in 9mm, .40 and other calibers. umc is great though i have had few messed up rds over the years maybe 3 out of 10,000rds though. blaser brass is a great deal too at most walmarts and i haveno complaints with it. wolf if i works in your gun that use it. american eagle i have great experiences with, and even the blaser aluminum ammo has done good by me.

so what if one type of ammo is dirtier than the other, thats what they make cleanning kits for right? and i personally like clenning my gns so that dosen't bother me. i also shoot lot oflead ammo and it is always a great choice, harder to clean sometimes, but the money that you save os worth it, its all about more bang for the buck.

CCI Aluminum Blazer 9mm shoots very clean for me. Its my first choice when I've fallen behind on my reloading and need cheap ammo to shoot. Back when it was $4/50 I was shooting mostly 9mm and not reloading much.

Wolf or Monarch steel cased ammo is OK if your gun doesn't have extraction/ejection issues with it, but its never been all that much cheaper than the Aluminum Blazer around here and the Blazer is much cleaner.

Given two cheap ammo brands at about the same price, I'll always go with the one that shoots cleaner, I hate cleaning guns.

I think you've heard wrong. For example I ran several hundred rounds of USA9JHP through a CZPO1 I picked up before the holidays. These are 115gr and marked personal defense on the white box of 50 and have consistently gone into 3.5 inch's or less for me at 25-yards. Winchester rates them at 1225fps and 383fpe, identical to the 115gr silvertip. Mine came from sportsmans warehouse at 14.00 a box. I liked them so much I purchased 2-case's of them..............:D

WWB is great stuff, but in 9mm, its does not come in a Styrofoam tray and the rounds are just loose in the box. This can be a plus or a minus depending on your preference. I just move it over a a reusable plastic box with dividers to make it easier for me to have an idea of counts and remaining numbers of rounds.

Blazer Brass is also good and also reloadable. I have been buying large amounts of Blazer in 9mm and .40 and I am also going to start buying .45 Blazer just as a hedge against rising ammo prices. I don't need it now, but prices are only going up right now.

Winchester White Box

I use 115G WWB FMJs as practice ammo. I use Corbon B 115G (thinking of moving up to 124G) JHPs as my carry load.

WWB at 115G is a lighter load, and I have to be careful to hold the weapon correctly - i.e. firmly with the shooting hand. My Beretta spring is just gettting broke in, and I have to do that because of stove-piping.

Good round for practice. Organize the 100 rd loose box rounds into piles that equal the number of rounds your magazine holds.

For practice, consider CCI Blazer 115gr FMJ with aluminum casings from Natchez shooting supplies. You get a nice discount if you buy a lot, say a packet of 1,000 rounds (20 boxes of 50 rounds). That's the best price I have found so far (no Academy around here and I don't reload).

Academy Sports sells the Prvi fodder under the Monarch name; it's clean, accurate, and it's relatively hot/sporty compared to the WWB/CCI stuff.

I love it. It's also under $7/box, which is about as cheap as I can get anything locally anymore.

Fiocchi 9mm practice ammo is loaded hot since it's to Euro specs so it makes great practice ammo to simulate the recoil from a defense round. I'm partial to the 123gr load.

Speer Lawman ammo is also excellent, it will duplicate the recoil felt from the Speer Gold Dot ammo. I like their 147gr load a lot, low flash and noise since it's subsonic.

WWB 9mm 115gr FMJ at Wally World for $15.72 per 100 round box for plinking. (Pick up the brass!!!!!!! Reloading material!)

Federal "9BPLE" 115 gr JHP +P+ for self-defense ammo. Ammoman.com was the last place that I personally saw it available.

The Federal 9BP 115 gr. JHP is good, also, IF you can't find the 9BPLE.

Remember. . you get what you pay for, in a defensive round.

Don't know how old this thread is.

Listen. I used a box of 50 rounds of PMC brass for target....the gun jammed so many times I ended up giving the rest of the rounds away!
Switched to Winchester white box target ammo. Have never had a single jam.
Hope it likes remington. Just purchased 800 rounds of hollow point, without ever trying it out. Couldn't beat the price thought.

the white box is just fine i have shot alot of it and remington umc and blazer in my 9mms glock 19 bhp and ruger p-89 no problems with any of it.

I bought a box yesterday of what is claimed to be the best self-defense 9mm available. It is the Cor-Bon DPX 9mm. It is so expensive I do not have the funds to give it a good testing, so I am hoping it will perform as advertised should I ever need to use it.

Really, I think there is a good racket in such high priced ammo. It is just like the Glaser Safety Slugs - they claim to be a huge advantage over ordinary ammo, but with a price so high no one can afford to test it out. You really don't know what you are getting for your money.

WWB is good practice ammo. Also Federal American Eagle. Relatively inexpensive and reloadable brass.

PRACTICE AMMOS:

People that reload know that the brass is the most expensive component. So, if you don't reload, why buy it to throw it away?

The aircraft grade aluminum CCI Blazer cases are perfectly adequate for 1X use, and the cartridges themselves have performed flawlessly for me over thousands of rounds, in 9 mm, .45 ACP and 10 mm. It is admittedly ugly stuff--looking like Soviet Block "People's Ammo", but it works! CCI Blazer is clean burning, quality practice ammo, at a great price! I get most of mine from Natchez, as well.

Winchester White Box is reliable practice ammo at a great price; but it is filthy burning stuff--my gun looks like my grill after 250-rounds! But it always cleans up.

Blazer Brass is the crappiest brass-cased ammo I've encountered, and I received two shipments of faulty .45 ACP cartridges, which varied up to 1/8" in length (the shorter ones would not feed). The 9 mm worked perfectly but was also ratty looking stuff for new OEM ammo.

I used Mag Tech from MidwayUSA, in 9 mm and .45 ACP for a while, and loved the stuff! Beautifully made ammo at cheap prices! The stuff suddenly back ordered for six months, and then the price went through the ceiling!

Remington/UMC is decent stuff, when it can be had on sale. It's loud and snappy (which is fun), and a bit dirty burning. I did receive one 9 mm cartridge with a split case, and I had another 9 mm fail to fire.

Remington 115 gr 9 mm can occasionally be had on sale in my area, for less than Natchez with shipping... It's a bit snappy, but nice quality ammo, and cleaner burning than the UMC.

CARRY AMMO:

For SD/HD we currently use Double Tap in 9 mm, 10 mm & .45 ACP.
