I just got a sample pack of the 124gr RN 9mm Bayou Bullets and I'm looking at running it with 4gr of Unique at a OAL of 1.075". I've got the 49th Lyman and there isn't a 124gr load listed so I based my charge off of the closest lead listing that they had which is for 120gr RN. The Lyman manual says for 120gr, my starting should be 4.0gr and an OAL of 1.065".

Come Sept. I also intend on picking up the Lyman Cast Bullet manual but for now, I wanted to ensure that my methods weren't way off base.

Thanks!

I think first and foremost you need to make a 'dummy' bullet and find out what your OAL should be with that particular design.

For example, my 358's won't chamber until they're seated at 1.01oal (not a typo). Once you figure that out, then you can work up a charge.

But if the Lyman manual has a starting grains of 4.0, you're probably safe with that. The Alliant site has a GDHP 124gr with 5.8 grains and 1.12oal.

4 grains of Unique and a 124 grain cast bullet properly seated is very light and mild... Good to go for your application, with lots to go should you want to. My 127 grain cast bullets driven by 4.7 grains of Unique clock between 1078-1093 fps avg depending on which pistol I shoot, and accuracy is as tight as you can hold.
