Hello all!

I love the idea of the Destroyer carbine:

Spanish_Destroyer_Carbine_1772.jpg

It is a small bolt action rifle chambered in the 9x23mm Largo cartridge, very similar in power to the 9x19mm Parabellum. These guns were used by the Spanish police from the '30s up into the late '60s.

I think this is just such a neat concept, and while I wouldn't be too hot using this thing as my patrol rifle, I'd think a small 9mm bolt action carbine would just be a hoot and a half! With today's prices of .22 LR ammunition, I've seen online where 9mm can be had for not too much more. I can imagine this style of gun being a very effective small game gun, and just tons of fun to plink with as 9mm ammunition being so plentiful and affordable (at least compared to other calibers).

I'd love to see a company, maybe one like CZ, offer a 9mm carbine with a nice wood stock and able to take maybe CZ-75 magazines. I'd think something like the CZ-527 scaled down to the pistol cartridge would just be so cool. Or heck, just bring out a clone of the Destroyer carbine but chambered in 9mm Parabellum and able to take a common 9mm pistol magazine.

Yes, I know there are semi-auto guns like the Kel Tec and Hi Point, but there is just something special about a traditional bolt gun and one could be made so small and short, with such a short bolt throw, that it would be marvelous.

Maybe I'm unique, would you guys like to see a company offer this type firearm? I know I would!

I think the bolt action 357 ruger makes more sense but i want a single shot with a long barrel. Should be fairly quiet and ammo options are endless, as are cases.

A bolt would be nice if it was basically a scaled up 22 size

Apparently there is a Lee Enfield model that coverts to .45 ACP nice and easy.

A jungle carbine in .45 would be a nice little bolt action PCC.

I like the Destroyer myself, too. I've love to see one remade that takes a common magazine. It'll probably be Glock mags, though. :(

I just took my Destroyer off the rack for Thursdays shooting extravaganza. There will not be a dirt clod or tomato can that will be safe, the rifle is a perfect choice for shooting when the .22's are set aside and before i break out five or six of my AR's. I commented on another thread that this rifle would be neat in other pistol calibers, particularly .357. The Ruger is too nice and expensive to drag out in the sticks but the Destroyer fits the bill perfectly and should be inexpensive to produce.

I'm in!! Even if Ruger did one with the rotary mag, that would work for me. However something that would take a common mag would be awesome.

You can get a Rhineland Arms conversion kit that turns a milsurp mauser into a 1911 magazine fed 45acp bolt action rifle. I have plans for some in the future. I too love the idea of a bolt action pistol caliber rifle.

Look at the rock island armory .22 tcm bolt action rifles. The .22 tcm is based off the 10mm I beleive. But is the overall length of the 9mm. I think they even use 9mm magazines. If you do a google search you will see some people are re-barreling the actions to chamber them in 9mm and .40s&w.

Send Rock Island Armory an email asking them to offer them in 9mm and 40 s&w. It wouldn't require any additional tooling. Just a diffrent barrel.

Dunno if it's already been mentioned but the closest I can think of are those 9mm M1 carbines that take Beretta mags.

Sorry, I can see the novelty in lower power pistol caliber bolt rifles, but, it doesn't make sense to me in this market. Semi autos, ok, but even levers these days stick to the higher caliber end of the pistol spectrum.

Only reason I see, is that this is an offshoot of the price spike/"shortage" of .22LR ammuntion.

Fair enough. I have just started loading 9mm, and contrary to what I read on the internet ("is reloading 9mm worth it?"), I am loading 9 at $0.11/rnd. That's better than mini mags in most places these days.

Those 22 tcms look good I would want to make it a swap barrel system so I don't lose that part of the spectrum. Kinda like their 1911 and how it comes with both barrels

I just shot Armscor this email:

Dear Armscor,

Good afternoon. I am contacting you regarding a product suggestion for your
company. I see that you offer a bolt action rifle in .22 TCM, and that is a
very interesting product. As much as I like .22 TCM, I would love to see
this same rifle chambered in 9x19mm. I would imagine that the only thing
you'd have to do is offer the same rifle but with a 9mm barrel.

I have spoken with a number of other shooters both in person and on various
internet firearms forums, and many express the desire for a centerfire bolt
action rifle in the economical 9mm cartridge. With the price of .22 LR
rimfire ammunition being what it is, many consider the 9mm to be a logical
alternative. I believe that if you offered this rifle chambered in 9mm, it
would sell. Offer it with a short 16.5" barrel and thread to accept a
suppressor, and it'd sell even better. But please... keep the wood stock,
it looks better than plastic!

In closing, I think this would be a great addition to your product line. I
can imagine very little R&D costs needed, as like I said, the basic rifle
would just need a 9mm barrel on your existing M22 action. This gun would be
a joy for plinking and small game hunting, shooters would love it. I'd buy
AT LEAST one myself. Please offer this as an option alongside your M22 TCM.
You will not regret it.

Thank you so much for your time, and have a great day!

If anyone of you guys (or gals) would want to see this as a factory option, email Armscor and let them know you want it!

I like the Pistol Cartridge Carbine (PCC) concept. 9 mm, .357, 10 mm, 44 mag. you name it. Bolt or semi, doesn't matter. I got interested in this after I bought a well used M1 carbine. I found out the barrel was history and purchased one with a better barrel. Then I thought that a scoped PCC would be fun so I purchased a 77/357. I'm now working up loads and moving up the ladder to the hotter loads. I'm up to 1700 fps (125 gr) and I'm impressed. It's really only a 100 yd gun but with some ballistics data from the Hornady website I can get the rounds on steel at 300 yards with ease.

9 mm + p would be a fun 100 yard gun. Put a cheap 4X scope on it everyone will want to shoot it, guaranteed. BOA (bring your own ammo).

Not buying anymore 22 LR ammo. PCC's are too much fun.

They are great woods guns, and I think people have started to see that after being forced down different avenues with the shortages. FMJs don't destroy too much meat on small game, but swap to a hollow point if you happen across something bigger like a coyote or even possibly a smaller whitetail at close range.

I've got two Destroyers sitting in my rifle safe. One is in the original 9x23 and the other was modified for a 9x19 chambering. I've got some 9x23 brass too.

The modified 9x19 version came to me only partially done. It still needs the front sight added to it and the barrel blued. And then I have to add a shim to the rear wall of the magazine to position the rounds to the front.

I'm looking at options for modifying a handgun magazine of some sort to fit the Destroyer. I'm going to try playing with 9mm single stack 1911 magazines and maybe some 9mm Tokarev mags and see if I can end up with an 8 or 9 round bolt action 9mm rifle.

I was really tempted to give Chiappa another chance and buy one of their wood stocked M1 carbine look alikes in 9mm. But three folks I know with them all have serious jamming issues with them. And the web is full of similar stories. So no thanks. On the other hand if there was a little trimming that could be done or some massaging of the magazine lips or something else that is fairly simple then I'd be all over one of those. They are VERY cool.

Another PCC that is great fun is my Rossi 92 lever rifle. It's my main match gun for cowboy action shooting. But it's also a great grin generator for days of plinking at a Caldwell flip and and reset handgun target sitting at 50 yards out. Or for a bit of rapid fire fun at 25 yards.

Well I took the Destroyer out Thursday and was quite elated to shoot two inch groups at fifty yards with fifties era corrosive ammo and the crude open sights. The old girl consistently rang the six inch plate at 100 yards and with my head double muffed the rifle sounded like a BB gun. If it wasn't for the horrible trigger it may shoot tighter. Thanks to the OP for reminding me that the Destroyer had a lot of fun left in it.

The armscor in 9mm would be amazing. Their website says the .22tcm is the first in a family of rifles. So maybe the 9mm is already in the works. They are a lot heavier than a destroyer though.

I don't want a magazine dangling underneath my destroyer. The factory mags are not that hard to find. Just by 100 38 super comp brass from starline and you have a lifetime supply. I don't think there is much improving to be done on a destroyer. Comparing its utility to a lever action or semi automatic completely misses the point. Most Destroyers shoot cast boolits very well.
