Custom Turk Mauser in 7.62 x 39
Well, a few years ago I happened into a Turk Mauser with everything wrong but the action. Barrel was shot, a few parts missing, stock worthless. So.. a project gun. I ordered a .308x39 barrel from Numrich as part of a conversion kit. Yes, it has a .308 bore. In a Mauser action, you can get away with shooting standard 7.62x39 milsurp ammo, but I handload with standard .308 bullets.
By the time I'd paid for the action, barrel, conversion kit, new stock, Timney Sportsman trigger, scope mounts, and labor for the gunsmith, I had myself a $700 "cheaper alternative" to the CZ.
It would have been worth it, but hey, since the action was made for loooonger cartridges, even with the mag spacer in the kit, it's finicky
about loading ammo with something other than FMJ spitzer bullets.:banghead: Let's just say it was an experience having a custom rifle built from scratch. If I had to do it over again, I'd be the proud owner of the CZ instead.
