Personal defense ccw with my Shield. Should I go 115 jhp or 124? Right now I have 115 stoked in the weapon. +P is not for me. In my SD9 VE I carry the 124 grain.
Any thoughts on a preference.

I think if you place your shot correctly there is no differene between the 115 or 124. 9 or 10 grains bullet weight either way is not going to decide the outcome.

I'm not a fan of +P in 9mm either. Lots of flash for maybe 100 fps in a round already going over 1000.

Go with what is most accurate and comfortable for you to shoot.

Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr. FTX is a highly rated cartridge especially for non +P. It is my carry round of choice for my short barrel edc.

Check out Shooting the Bull videos on youtube. He tests many different brands of 9mm from a short barrel 9mm pistol. They are very professionally done and unlike most other "tests" he shoots five rounds in plain and five rounds into ballistic gel covered by demin.

I think people put to much thought and worry into this, and not enough thought or worry into their ability to putting bullets where they need to go, fast and accurately. I say just get some hollow points that are reliable in your gun(s) from an American ammo company and be done with it, but practice with cheap ball as often as you can.

I would choose the bullet weight that hits at POA at what ever your desired distance is. 9 grains difference isn't going to make a big difference in penetration.

115 and 147 are a little more debatable. One thing to note, it's my understanding that you typically get a little better velocity from short barreled guns if you choose a heavier bullet. Though, your POI may be a little high. Just need to know where your gun hits depending on bullet weight.
