9mm Carbine

A closed bolt semi auto Uzi is an entirely different beast than the open bolt select fire Uzi.
Can't say I'm much of a fan of the closed bolt semi-auto Uzi, at least not stocked with a 16" barrel.

For the amount I'm going to spend on a Sub2k, I had looked into building a PSA AR9, but when I got into the readin of it I worried about reliability. I also worried it wouldn't be turn key. Something about special hammers to function and other parts necessary that they don't sell.

I'd prefer an AR15 in 9mm if I could. Even if it didn't take the same magazines.

Keep your eyes peeled for a PC9. Takes Ruger mags for the P series handgun. Looks a lot like a 30 carbine sort of. Fairly heavy for such a small rifle but built like a tank. I have a good one and my oldest son (39) has one of his own. I cast 125 gr plain base bullets already and the Ruger carbine eats them like candy. Over a moderate charge of Bullseye. I haven't seen a PC 9 for sale locally for a while but they do show up. They do seem to be getting a little pricey but we've never had a problem ever with ours. :D

Iver Johnson took a bunch of M1 carbine parts--bored the barrel to 9MM & used a Browning H P P35 mag.
I never cared for it as it jammed to easily--I liked the stock & used it on a M1 carbine----the inside of an M1 stock has to be modified to fit on the IJ
Maybe someday I will work on making it work--who knows

Since its a blow back, you need a heavier bolt carrier with no piston/cam arrangement. Basically the RRA style of carrier needs a "9mm hammer" to function, where as the CMMG "ramped" style works with any standard non-notched AR hammer, but curiously will not work with the RAA 9mm hammer.

That, the larger bore barrel and the magwell block and magazines are the only non-standard parts.

An Uzi ( semi auto) is nice conversation piece--other than that--what you have is a 10/11 # handgun that costs a horrible amount of money for ammo.
My kids were mad as hell that I got rid of our Uzi as it was costing a fortune for reloads.
& at that time MI made the standard barrel illegal---I think you had to have a 19" barrel--they knew you could not find a 19" barrel or you had to weld open the folding stock--
destroying the value of the gun

A Just Right Carbine Is a nice gun to shoot. It comes in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. It will take Glock or M&P mags.

I've really been looking around for a sub2k in .40sw for Glock mags. Seems they are constructed of unobtainium, which can only be made by rendering down unicorn horns and blending with the same alloy that Ironman's suit is made of. Bud's is out if them all the time.

I want one that'll fit inside my gold prospecting backpack for when I get too bored. That, or a Henry US Survival (Charter Arms AR-7). I think the Sub2k in case run across a coyote, or something else that deserves a little more than .22LR.

I own a couple 9mms but never been a real fan of them, carried a 1911 43 years ago, so .45 for me has always been the way to go....I am a revolver guy cause I hunt or use large calibers for hogs, a must in my cattle business....my favorite is a .44 mag Blackhawk so I got me a .44 mag carbine....wow...one helluva lil carbine....a thumpin killer for sure....a 9mm...not so much. I do own a 9mm revolver (Ruger .357/9mm convertible) and may just get me a cheapo Hi-Point cause I know they are great firearms for the price. my new carbine is a Ruger 77/44....I love it...lots of gun in a small package.

Yeah I have 4 44 pistols and a 44 carbine by ruger. I want the 9mm because it's cheap to load for and cheap to shoot. Like a 22 on steroids is how I'm looking at it. I think I can reload 500 9mm for around 80$ which is rewlly hard to beat.

Which is a bit less that twice what the cheapest .22lr is going for these days, so for a lot of folks who ask "why a 9mm carbine?" its replacing .22lr shooting for a lot of us re-loaders.

Beware of Botach. They have a history of complaints about their business practices including one by me.
That is good to know. I have only ordered mags from them in the past. Off topic though. If you don't mind sending me a PM, I would be interested in what happened.

GRUMP!

ATI apparently no long stocks 995 Hi Point stocks. I could not find them on their web sight. I think their stock looked better than the old or new Hi Power stocks.

That said. I have seen elsewhere on THR post about making Hi Point carbine shoot ammo they were not intended for.

I am not converse with the inner working and hidden mechanisms of the 995, but has anyone modified one to take dual stack single feed magazines like for the Browning P35 BHP, Beretta 92 series or CZ 75s? From what I have seen the magazine is only contacted by the plastic stock, is that true? If so it would seem the only think stopping the use of the high cap magazines is modifying the pistol grip. I am thinking Bondo and a wild imagination here.....

A 995 that could handle the more reliable of the after market 20 round mags for those guns would be a different animal from what they are today.

I kinda like my Chiappa M1-22 and they make a 9mm version that takes Beretta mags. I gotta admit, though, I'm just a sucker for M1 Carbine looks....

I have the Marlin Camp 9 and the Camp 45. Both are fantastic little rifles. You need to replace the bugger and recoil spring however if you ever get one. The factory buffer was junk and deteriorated badly with age. The springs were also undersized and should be replaced, 16.5 lb suggested for the 9, 21.5 lb for the 45. If you look you can find the carbines for 600-900, and they are worth it.
