9mm carbine info request

Beretta, Hi-point and Kel-tec (and Corbay I suppose) make 9mm carbines. I've got the Beretta. Can the owners of the others give me information on them. I've been thinking of a Kel-Tec that runs on Glock or Beretta magazines, but the idea of a rifle that was designed to be broken in half bothers me. Is it tight when open? Is it accurate? Do the Hi-Point magazines last and do they interchange with the Hi-Point pistol?

Thanks for any and all info.

As much of a Hi-Point fan as i am,i chose the Kel-Tec in 9mm using S&W 5900 mags as my carbine. Its good looks and its cool folding feature was enough to sway me.It has been 100% since i got it but ive only used 115gr FMJ's.I cant praise it enough, but i would suggest you get one that uses either S&W or Beretta mags in case the AWB doesnt sunset.Glock mags holding more than 10 rounds are expensive! You can obtain 15-30 round mags fairly easily for the S&W or Beretta models.;)

Keep the replies coming

I figured that there were more here. I appreciate the info. Must be the holidays.

You didn't have my favorite 9mm carbine on your list, so I didnt respond.
But since your replies are a bit light, I have an AR with a 9mm Olympic upper. Uses sten mags with the SOCOM adapter and is surprisingly accurate at 100 yds. Sten mags are really cheap and hold 32 rounds. You will need a mag loader unless you have some really powerful thumbs.
This gun is really reliable, and takes anything I feed it. Comes with a stainless barrel finished in a parked type finish. I have an A2 upper, and use a red dot on a carry handle mount for shooting plates. If you are a bump firing fan, this gun is as good as it gets. It has a really heavy bolt used in a blow back system and can dump a 32 round mag as smooth as anything I have seen. I feed mine Wolf ammo by the case and have had zero problems with it.

carbine

i just added a ruger pc-9 to my collection..... if you want more info, let me know and I'll post my full range report.......... FEW IF ANY long-guns are more practical AS WELL AS fun than carbines.

I recently purchased the Kel-Tec 9mm in the Beretta mag format. I love this gun so far. Its the lightest rifle I have ever been able to shoulder unsupported. It can break down in half and fits in a pistol case along with my other pistols for a range trip. It would make a great under the seat truck gun. The sights are like looking down an AR-15's sights which I love. Theres some factory accessories you can buy, like a forward under the barrel mount. (I plan on mounting a M3 on it)

Just to finish it off, Ive put 100rds of PMC ammo through it, no problem. A couple of things I dont like: My mags wont drop free empty (not sure if this is just my sub or not) My trigger is heavier then the model I dry fired in the shop. Adjusting the sights is somewhat a pain. And for me the charging handle is stiff to rack.

On my trial shoot with the sub I emptied a 10rd mag as fast as I could with only half a sight picture, off tilt, in 40degree weather, wearing a heavy jacket at a man target 25yrds away. And managed to keep all but 1 round COM. Thats pretty good for a disabled shooter in a wheelchair.

-Variable out.

You didn't have mine on your list either...but anyway...

I've got an IMI Uzi Model 45 with a 9mm bolt and barrel. I like being able to swap back and forth between .45 and 9mm. And, 25 round Uzi 9mm mags are dirt cheap. :D

i have the Sub 2000 with Glock mags. i wish i would have bought the S&W or Beretta mag version. i didn't check prices of mags before i bought it and i wish i would have. i had to send mine back to fix a mag catch problem, which they did quickly and free of charge and everything is fine now. the gun is very secure when unfolded. there is no play or rattles. its also a kick in the pants to shoot! mine has been much more accurate than i expected. at 30 yards, it cuts one ragged hole. the charging handle is stiff indeed as it is designed to handle +P loads. adjusting the sights is a bit cumbersome but you only need to do it once. unless you use Gunscrubber. then you'll have to replace the front sight as the Gunscrubber will melt it. learned that one the hard way. i fold mine in half and put it in my backpack to take it to the range. i always get a few curious looks when i unfold it and start shooting. it will easily fit in a briefcase too.

because of the previous failures and need for repairs, i don't have enough faith in it to depend on it for self or home defense. i might if it proves to be relaible in the future.

i bought the 33 round Schere mag for it and it was junk. after i cleaned out all of the crud out of the inside, it will now feed 5 or six rounds between jams. it sucks. but the real glock 18 mags are fetching $150 at local gun shows.

all told, i'm very satisfied with the little rifle. i bought it as a fun gun and thats exactly what it delivers.

Thanks.

I hadn't thought about all the different alternatives. Gun show in 2 weeks. I'll look around.

Anyone with a Cobray?

I have the Sub2000, 9mm, Glock mags. Serial # <1000 and it has been flawless. No FTF, FTE, etc.

Mine is very tight both folded and locked in the firing position. And at 4 pounds and very minimal recoil, it's great fun to shoot. Plus, I feel it makes a great home-defense weapon. Under high-stress situations I just feel a rifle is easier to shoot than a handgun, IMHO.

Have you checked out the Feather Rav-9mm?

Ive got a Hi-point carbine and it is the most ACCURATE and reliable gun i have ever shot, its even more accurate than ANY .22 I have shot. I love it. Its had thousands of rounds through it with no problems at all.

I have several: Ruger PC9, Hi-Point, Colt AR15 in 9mm, and a Sten MKII SMG.
Not much to say about them that hasn't been said many times before.
If I was looking for a 9mm carbine knowing what I do now, I would buy the Hi-Point.

Ruger PC 9

Hello:

Has anyone had experience with Ruger's 9mm carbine? I'm talking in terms of accuracy and reliability. Will it feed reloads? Or would you have any suggestions as to another semi-auto carbine/short rifle in 9mm?

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

Pete

I've shot one (my Pop's) several times. I do recall that it was picky about feeding lead reloads, especially out of some cheap 30 round clips. The feed ramp is pretty steep, and the soft lead bullets kept catching on the outer rim of the chamber. FMJs reloads were no problem. In my experience the carbine has been a blast to shoot. No recoil and surprisingly accurate with the stock sites. Hitting soda cans at 50 yards shouldn't be a problem.

The PC-9 is the extent of my experience with 9mm carbines.

cobray??masterpiece arms located in georgia makes a better copy.the internals are machined not cast and everything is heat treated.the 45 and 9mm version both accept surplus(unmodified) mags-9mm sten and .45acp greasegun.they cost around 350 bucks new for the carbine.they work.the postban carbines are not the same as the original cobray(SWD) and there are currently several companies making them based on the SWD design(lol..which was based on the original ingram mac design)
