I have an article on it kicking around here. Was printed in a gun magazine years ago- and a fellow reloader was kind enough to give me a copy recently.
*shuffles papers to find article*
The article was written by Mike Thomas and was published in Handloader magazine in 1995- February edition 173,
short version is- you can load up bullets designed for the 357/38spl in 9mm cases and have them work fine in a 9mm handgun. Mike tested the loads in a Walther P4, beretta 92F, and a sig 226.
posted data up to 157gr Lyman 356637 Flatnose
he didn't get great accuracy- but it was a good test anyway as most 9mm barrels on many production handguns run larger than .355. in the author's case, they measured from .357-.359 so he ran bullets sized up to .360
Guy got the loads up to 1040 FPS with 150+gr bullets and went up to 1.17 in OAL with 1.13 being the shortest.
most loads seemed to hover right around 900 fps. the guy got frequent stoppages with some profiles (shot SWCs, RNs, RNFPs)
Some day I keep telling myself I'm going to see if I can get 158gr LSWC to run in a 9mm, but I never really sit down and do it. more to see if it can be done than anything.
I'd post the load data- but I'm not sure if its in any books or if he cooked it up. best groups he got were a bit under 3 inches at 25 yards from rest.
