Anyone have any load recipes for 9mm with a 16" barrel?

I'm hoping for higher velocity perhaps with a slower burning powder. Don't want to exceed SAAMI specs though.

You are only going to get another 100-150 fps in a 16" barrel over a 4-5" handgun without exceeding SAAMI specs. Use a 147 grain bullet and you might wind up with less velocity than a handgun due to barrel friction.

You have to take it for what it is. You're not going to get any soaring velocities without going overboard.

Yeah I guess I kinda figured, I was hoping there might be something to using slower powders to make a gain.

Try AA#7, it was a military powder for carbine 9mm. Its about as slow as Blue Dot and you'll use around 8.0grs + with a 115gr bullet, see Accurate on line data.

AA #5 does well with 16" barrels, so AA #7 should do real well too. I haven't tried it though.

My 9mm 16" carbine gets about 170 fps more than the same loads in a Glock19 pistol. That's with 124gr bullets loaded to about 1050fps in the pistol and getting a little over 1200fps in the carbine. These results are using Unique powder. For top velocities in the longer barrel, slower powders such as Hodgdon Longshot or Alliant Power Pistol would probably be the best way to go. Hodgdon and Alliant websites have data for these powders but I haven't tried any other loads yet. I don't want to have two different loads in 9mm so I've just settled on the same loads for both as it shoots extremely well in both.

I have a .45 acp carbine w/a 16" barrel the action is straight blow back semi-auto, I had some feed problems with 185gr JHPs with slower powders, Unique and AA#5 work very well and I think Power Pistol would be another good choice. Would the higher pressure of the 9x19 help with lighter bullets and slow powders with this action type ?

The main problem with slow powders in the 9mm is the small case capacity doesn't allow for enough powder. Powders as slow as Blue Dot and AA#7 are about the slowest you can use effectively. I believe I'd read that AA#7 was the powder used by the Israelis for their SMG ammo. Hodgdon HS6 is another powder that does well in the 9mm.

HS-6 worked very well for me in an Uzi w/16" barrel. Nice balance of propellant speed, charge weight, and velocity. I imagine if you went with some "major" data out there, performance would be very impressive.

Also used Unique with the then current data which was a max of 6.2 grains/115 FMJ, and that is/was a real screamer, and of course perfect ejection.
