Title says it all. I have a 9mm rifle to feed and a supply of RMR 147 grain HMW. Longshot is listed as slower than Blue Dot and most other powders. Can a 9mm take advantage of this in a 16” barrel?

I too would be thinking a slow powder for this application, but in the real world results always seem to surprise me. I believe that such a short case, and relatively large diameter with that long of barrel is a lot of barrel volume to continue efficiently expanding propellant.
What kind of rifle? Chamber support is going to be of consideration. My one and only "Pistol caliber carbine" is a CMMG Banshee in 10mm (8" bbl)
Initially, I wanted the highest velocity loads I could safely load.. but quickly learned the gun didn't like the full powered loads. Bulged the brass near the case head like a mushroom (sort of like brass fired from an Uzi) rendering them useless to load again.

If you have a Chronograph, you will need to experiment with different types of loads/powders and see where things land. Longshot and Blue Dot are great bet.....

I have a Sub2000. I think there is a point of diminishing returns. The slowest powder listed in the 9mm rifle section of my manual is Blue Dot. I just wonder if Longshot is too slow. Hodgden has data but that doesn’t mean it’s a good powder. I would also like to try some Lehigh 65 or 68 grain bullets and have been saving some Silhouette just for the occasion. These would also likely benefit from the rifle barrel length.

Around 20 years ago I loaded some 124 gr. Berry’s with Blue Dot for use in a Marlin Camp-9. I was getting over 1500 FPS from the 16” barrel. Same load did just over 1200 in a full-sized pistol.

what I found was accuracy wasn’t great. I was probably over the recommended velocity for that bullet.

Speed is good, but only if you can hit what you’re shooting at.

reminds me what one of the long timers always says at the bowling pin shoots.

You can't miss fast enough to win.

When loading a large flake like Blue Dot in a small case like 9mm, I'd expect the thrown charges to vary by + or - 5% which is a lot of variance.

I’ll see which I can find first. I need to see if these bullets work in my M&P9.

If your M&P is like mine, it has a pretty generous leade. If memory serves me right on the rmr 124 mw they hit the leade at something like 1.150-1.160.

Haven't tried it in my PCC yet but I did get good vels with Longshot (loudshot) out of my Tarus PT99.
I would think being slower it would give good vels in a PCC.

GRT shows Longshot with a 124gr bullet picking up about 250 fps going from a 5" to a 16" barrel,
I currently don't have any Longshot on had but it would be interesting to test to see what real numbers looked like.
