could anybody advise me on what is the best carry load in 9mm luger
i have a firestar 9mm and i do not like plus p ?

Boy!
You just opened up a whole big can of worms!

But the Winchester 115 Silver-Tip, and 124 Remington Golden-Saber are both highly rated standard pressure loads that have been around a long, long time.

They are also both widely available at reasonable cost.

That means you can afford to practice with them without breaking the bank.

Getsum!

I like the Speer 124gr GDHP standard pressure factory loads for carry. They average 1150 fps (364 ft-lbs) out of my 3.6" Beretta 8000F. That's only 40 fps less than the +P version with the same bullet.

Interestingly, my S&W 547s (3" and 4") both shoot this round much faster than the Beretta. So much for the adverse affects of the barrel-cylinder gap...

Pick any of the following bullet weights: 115gr, 124gr, 147gr

Pick any of the following brands:
Winchester SXT or Silvertip
Remington Golden Sabre
Hornady
Speer Gold Dot
Federal Hydrashok
Black Hills (loads either Speer or Hornady bullets)

All the quality bullets in standard weights do well.

No offense intended if your pet load is omitted. However, some small-time companies are deliberately left out.

SAY WHY NOT TRY A 147GR Hornady XTP HOLLOW POINT I USE 700-X BUT YOU CAN USE ABOUT ANY BRAND OF PISTOL POWDER ON THE MARKET.

I think he is asking about factory loads.

At least my impression was he isn't a handloader.

Aah...roscoemm...Would another Firestar M43 carrier do ya for an "expert" (I'm a drip now. Use to be a spert). I carry Federal 124 grain Hydra-Shoks (non-plus P Factory rounds)...

They run around 1020 fps from our 3.39" barrel...I ran them through my Chronograph...

i use the Remmy GS 147gr non +P.

brassfetcher has it at 12" and .51 expansion if i remember right. cant ask much more from one's ammo.

i'm confident in it .

The good old Federal 9BP is never a bad choice.

Agree.

My personal preference is for standard pressure 124 grain then 115 grain loads.
I have always kept one spare mag with hardball , just how raised, for me and mine with tasks and settings.

Now I go back before some of today's loading come to be, and these loadings still work.
i.e. Don't overlook Fiocchi loadings, often times these quality loads are less monies than other choices.

Federal 9BP , Fiocchi, and others may not get all the glitz, glitter or 'Net time, still these are proven.

One needs to test in guns, and while many will post negative, I will say Win STHP 115 grain have fed for me and mine in anything we have shot them in.
FWIW the WWB 115 Personal Protection matches the STHP 115 gr in measurements, in chrono results, and in shooting dirt and critters.

Best kept secret is Blazer aluminum in both hardball and JHP.

Any premium load from any of the reputable manufacturers is going to do the job, as long as you do yours (placing the round in its target).

I have equal confidence in a Remington 147 grain Golden Saber standard pressure BJHP, as I do in the Winchester SXT 127 grain +P+ JHP. These companies have done their homework, spent millions in R&D, and we're the ones who benefit from this hard work.

If the round feeds reliably, and if you can shoot it accurately, then carry it.

win Silvertips are GREAT in both 115gr and 147gr..

Federal Hydrashock 124gr. are also top of the line ime.

as stated above, shot placement is the most important tho.. hell FMJ's will work when they hit the right spots.. I pack FMJ in the winter for better pennetration.

ip.

The most common stuff I find is
124 gr. SPeer Gold Dot JHPs

I found a small company offering
147 gr. Hornady XTP JHP @ 1,090 FPS Non +P
I would like to order and shoot for evaluation.

i just did a wetpack test with 15 HST 124 grain non +p...the 5 that went through 4 layers of denim opened up perfectly, the best reaching 3/4 of an inch wide--BUT--( insert dramatic music here) the other 10 that took on denim and 1 layer of leather jacket OR just 1 layer of leather jacket did not do well at all, all expanded but Very Poorly...all rounds penetrated about 6-7 inches each, so just for perspective; i shot 15 speer lawman 124 grain in FMJ into the other side of the pack to gauge the packs strength and they all went 8-9 inches....i want to like the HST, when they work they look nasty, but if i were living up north and could encounter a BG wearing leather, i would plan on squeezing off extra rounds.....draw you own conclusions please

Welcome to THR!

If that is a 4 inch barrel you have, then a couple of Great Non +P loads are the Federal 147gr Tactical LE HST or the Winchester Ranger LE 147gr Bonded. These are both Law Enforcement loads and Have EXCELLENT Terminal performance. They Retain 100% of their Weight. The Penetration and Expansion is Awesome! I use Nothing but Law Enforcement Ammo in all my guns for Defensive purposes. The Boxes of 50 Rounds purchased online, even with shipping, are more cost effective then 20-25 Round boxes of Civilian Defensive Ammo purchased over the counter. Check out the link below:D
