Why hasn't some one like Kahr made an M1 carbine in 9mm? I know 30 carbine is the traditional but it's kind of expensive. 9 mm is pretty cheap, and the M1 carbine arguably the most common plinker of the last 60 years(that's not a 22!) What am I missing?

i think they just dont see a point they are keeping a traditional rifle traditional

id like one in 7.62x25 super cheap and a great round id love it but i dont see anyone making one anytime soon

What killed the Ruger PC carbine was that it was way too heavy and large. I always felt that if it weighed a pound less and was more the size of a M1 carbine it would have been much more popular. Not necessarily the same mechanical design but similar in size.

While I am a fan of the 9mm, and keep a Beretta 92FS and a Sig P6 for my main SD handguns, and have previously used several different 9mm carbines (Marlin, HiPoint, and UZI), I much prefer the 30 carbine round in the carbine. It is a blast to shoot, and gives enough of a performance advantage to make it worthwhile. I have found 30 carbine ammo for $18.99 per 50, so it isn't that much more expensive than 9mm.

Probably the main reason is that the M-1 carbine is gas operated, and a lot of 9mm ammo wouldn't operate the action.

You are dealing with factory 9mm loads and reloads ranging from 90 grain bullets all the way up to 147 grain bullets.
In Standard, +P, and +P+ pressure loadings.

The power levels, as well as the type powder used, is all over the charts for a gas-gun to work well, if at all.

I too would jump at a Carbine in
7.62tok. I had a cousin who had fought in WW2 and swore that he originated the idea for an M1 Carbine in the 7.92 kurz, or a similar caliber. He'd curse Bill Ruger anytime he saw a Mini30.

I agree with RCmodel. A lot of the military guns that ran on a gas system including the M1 carbine were using ammunition that was all within very very close pressures.

If you were to try different types of 9mm in a gas gun that wasn't made to take all the bazillions of different types of 9mm ammo, it may prove difficult for the gun to function correctly, 100% of the time.

Plus the fact 30 carbine ammo isn't that much more than 9mm, at least from what i have seen. Or used to see, before people began to beat people over the head with insane prices of their ammo.

I have one of the Marlin Camp 9's 9x19 which I'm real fond of. Uses S&W 59
series magazines; 15 rounds. Compliments my Sig P6.
Not an M1, I realize but if you want a 9mm Rifle, you can find these now and
then.
