9mm suggestions?

Got a birthday coming in a few weeks, and I've decided to add a 9mm to the gang.

Any feedback and/or suggestions for a good decent 9mm auto in roughly the $500.00 range?

With ambidextrous safety lever for this southpaw.

M&P 9 or 9c, the new G4 Glocks are supposed to have reversible mag releases as well. The M&P 9 is a great little gun and can be had in your price range.

I'm a lefty. I've got the 85, and it's an excellent shooter. I wanted the 75 SA, but the 85 came along first.

If I could put the cash together, I would get an XDsc, Sig 250 and XDm in that order of preference.

Sig P6 if you don't mine a LE trade-in. i think you can still get them for <$350.

a larger gun would be a LE trade-in Sig 226 for $449 or a Walther P99 for $399

The M&P 9 is a great little gun and can be had in your price range.

I'll second that. The M&P9 has a reversible magazine release, an ambidextrous slide lock, and an option for an ambidextrous manual safety. The capacity of the full-size version is 17+1 rounds, and that of the compact is 12+1 rounds. It's reliable, lightweight, shoots lightly for its weight with minimal flip, has unbeatable ergonomics, in my opinion, and above average potential for improvement with custom trigger work. The latter is not a euphemism for being poor out of the box--my M&P40 is stock and I've been very happy with it, even more so after putting a few hundred rounds through it.

My CZ 85 is the newest gun in my safe, so we're still getting to know each other. Other than a mushy single action trigger pull, I've been very happy with its performance and accuracy. Ambi safety for you other-handers.

It is slightly more than 500.00, but there is always the Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm. Very nice handgun

Here's another recommendation... Ruger P95s in 9mm..
I've got two and never had a problem except a weak mag release spring. That was over a decade ago and was an easy fix.
I've got small hands and the P95s fit my hands where other 9mm. double stack pistols of the time would not.

Oddly enough one of the running jokes I have at the Taurus forum are that the forum should be called the Taurus/Ruger forum. The reason for that is many staff and members have both makers products. A very large number of people at that.

I do like some of the picks that others have made.

Since this is about what fits you and your needs and nothing else what ever choice you pick we should all celebrate that pick.

How hard are extra magazines to get for CZ's in the states?

Extremely easy, Mec-Gar makes the full run of their magazines I think as OEM but they also sell them branded under their own name for a bit cheaper.

CDNNinvestments.com is the first place I go for magazines, since they often have free shipping specials going on and frequently throw in presents with your order.

Also they are usually the lowest bidder for similiar items.

dont forget the Ruger SR9- its underrated ,it will put the Glock to shame its one of the best cheapest polymer 9mms out there.

Under $500 WITH ambidextrous safety lever will rule out most of the guns listed here so far if you are looking at new.

A 9mm that can be bought new for under $500 that comes with ambidextrous safety lever is the CZ P-07 Duty. It uses a DA/SA trigger. Comes set up in ambidextrous decocker mode. But also in the box with the two parts to convert it to ambidextrous safety mode.

As a bonus CZ absolutely nailed the grip design on the P-07. Put one in your hand an see for yourself after you handled the others listed here. The Iceing on the cake is in typical CZ style, accuracy is excellent. Need I say more.

...a good stainless decocker or safety model that's ambi out of the box is the Ruger KP95DC or KP95....used,(no rail) they're around $300-375...15-shot or 10shot mags(MecGar has a 17-rd)...ultrareliable, good in the hand and very concealable...can't go wrong...I'm a lefty, too, and the Rugers are for us...
