So I find myself in the market for a new 9mm handgun because my M&P9 Pro was stolen from my vehicle this weekend. I would rant but I don't think I could without spewing an excess of foul language. I loved my M&P but I don't want to buy another on the slim chance I get it back. If it hasn't happened within 6 months I will go ahead and do that but I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime I have about 700 rounds with nothing to shoot them with. So just looking for suggestions.

I was looking at hammer fired such as CZ P07 but have seen some not so stellar reviews. I like the looks of the Berretta PX4. I'm not opposed to metal framed or striker fired. Those were just a couple I had in mind before my favorite range toy was taken.

Price range is 600. (Or just wait a month or so and get a Sig??) Will mostly be a range/bedside gun with a possibility of carry secondary. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your prized M&P Pro being stolen - that REALLY sucks! I hope you got some insurance money for it.

Well you can't go wrong with a SIG - either P226 or P229.

Take a look at the poly frame SIG SP2022 and Walther PPQ also.

As always it is best to try out whatever you are considering.

Good luck!!

If you had, and liked, and M&P, why not look for a used Glock? My choice came down to an M&P or a G19. I found a cheap used Gen2 G19 and like it. If I had not, I'd might well have bought S&W.

Walther P99 or PPQ are fantastic shooters. The P99 compact is great for CCW and be gotten around the $450.00 range from CDNN.

For a truck gun I would go with a Bersa. They are inexpensive, reliable and underrated. With Bersa you get more gun than you pay for.

CZ has made improvement to the P-07, so if you get a more recent one, no worries.

They also make the fantastic PCR, and P-01 which are lightweight, compact 9MM's.

Unfortunately there are no ranges in my area that rents guns. I have some friends with Glocks and shoot them pretty well for my limited experience. They just don't feel good in my hand though. Anyone have any experience with the gen 4 small back straps? Thanks for all the input. Going to spend a little time on gunbroker now.

Reviews on the P07's are all over the place. I think a lot of the problems have been ironed out and I know several people who love the newer ones. That said, given that the PCR and P01 are proven designs in the same size package, I would highly recommend one of those compacts instead. I have a custom PCR and it's a fantastic little gun.

Heck, go ahead and replace your much-loved M&P. You already know & like it. And the chances of it coming home are somewhere between slim & none. Hey, get an M&P Compact. That way, if your Pro surprisingly finds it way home, you've still got a great EDC.

The P07 is a terrific value (I'm guessing they still go for less than $450 new). My bro has one and after a couple thousand rounds the only problem we've had is a bad magazine spring. It's reliability has been nothing short of amazing. It's light and compact and would make an excellent CCW gun.

To be honest though, I'd go for a G19 or another M&P specifically because of the widespread availability of aftermarket parts.

cz 75 compact vs cz p01

Hey guys

I'm in the same boat, looking for a new 9mm. Anybody know the difference between the cz 75 compact and the cz p01? Is it really just steel vs alloy and if so is there any tradeoff with the alloy?

I'm in NJ so i'm limited to 15rds in the mag, so I kinda threw out the P07 b/c I think you're stuck with 10rds or 16rds; but let me know if I'm wrong...I keep having gateway issues with CZ's website.

I'm currently between the Glock 19, CZ (compact or p01) and Ruger SR9C. Right now Glock and CZ have the lead because of parts availability and track record. I'm renting the Glock and Ruger this weekend...can't get the CZ for rental anyplace so will have to stick with dryfire for comparison :-(

Okay after a little looking and comparing I really like the CZ P01 and the idea of getting the MP9c. Also maybe try to handle a XDm 3.8

The P-01 has a rail, a full-length frame (for a compact) and it's an aluminum frame. The P-01 is essentially a smaller SP-01 while the compact is essentially a smaller 75B.

I agree with Ghost Tracker.

If you already have spare magazines and a decent holster for your M&P then you don't have to spend the extra money to acquire these items as you would if you purchased an entirely different pistol.

I'm a submariner. In my world we believe in dual redundancy - or "two of everything". If one breaks you have a spare to keep you going. I carried this philosophy to my defense guns - I try to have "two of each". That way if one breaks or otherwise becomes unusable then I have an identical backup that I can either pull out of my range bag or gun safe and drive-on.

Good luck!

Keithco88 I am in NJ as well. Go to shoreshot in lakewood and see if they rent the Walther PPQ and throw that into your pool of choices. I have heard great things on it and think its my next 9mm. Feels great in the hand and a great trigger for a sfg.

Since you're looking at the replacement as a bedside/range pistol maybe consider the Beretta 92fs. Solid, reliable, and pretty accurate. Great platform for burning up all that extra 9mm ammo.

I have a huge guncrush for CZ, so I'd get one of those, probably the P01. One thing I didn't see mentioned yet though is the P01 and PCR are both decocker models. 75B compact has manual safety so can do cocked and locked. The P07 comes with the option of installing either.

+1 to 92fs if you're looking for a full size, full service pistol. I have the highest respect for these guns... i prefer an italian made one, but they're all good guns. even cheaper, taurus pt92 is virtually the same gun, the mechanisms are a bit different, but they shoot about the same. if you feed hollow points in the taurus, please polish your feed ramp as they tend to spike I've noticed at the range.

I have several Gen 4 Glocks. I think the back straps are great improvement. I like the bigger ones but I have taken them off for some people to use and they love the feel. If you were to go Glock go Gen 4 with confidence.
I like the feel of the M&P, I don't like the feel of the XD's. I shoot the Glock far better than anything else I've tried.

Condolences on your lost friend. I hope it is returned.

I have a M&A full size and compact. I shoot the full size better because of the full size grip. I EDC my 9c. If I want to carry a full size mag I use a grip extender

At the $600 price point, there's not much reason to look past the Walther P99AS or PPQ (depending on your trigger preference).

I bought a red box sig 226 ( certified pre-owned) for $500 and it looked and functioned like brand new. If you can find one I would recommend that route, best sig sauer bang for your buck.
