Ken -

There is No published number for what you want. However, the SAAMI maximum diameter as shown in your reloading manual for 9mm is 0.380". If you'll get the diameter .001 or .002" smaller than that, your bullets should be able to drop right into your cartridge gauge and/or barrel.

And that's exactly what you want to have happen.

Here is a pic of a light taper crimp on a .38 Super. Same difference.

In auto calibers such as 9MM, .40, .45 etc, you want to remove the bell and a hair more. I use a Loupe to see my crimp when setting up the crimper for such calibers.

If you'll get the diameter .001 or .002" smaller than
the diameter where the bullet is seated in the case, you'll be fine.

Haven't ever used a crimp for 9mm myself. However, use just enough to hold the bullet in place. There is no measurement for any crimp.

It depends on case thickness. Bullet diameters also vary a little.

Win cases read .377 to .378 when I crimp to 'take out the bell'. "Walkalong's" coke bottle shaped super is normal for 9mm too.
Don't overcrimp/print or otherwise damage the jacketed bullet.

Like "rfwobbly" said, If your cartridge drops 'drops' easily all the way into the chamber seating on the case mouth, it should run.

About reloading, listen to these two. About other things, use caution.
