Caliber: 9mm

Use: looking for soft shooting, paper punching loads (will not be used for carry or personal defense)

Pistol: Colt Combat Commander/4.24" barrel

Loader: Dillon SDB

Bullets: 124 and 147 grain TCJ FMJ

Powder: Unique (all I could find in stock locally)

Set up and ready to work the handle for the first time.

Your recommendations?

(searched through many other threads, but I guess I overlooked recommendations using Unique powder)

thnx

Unique is good stuff.

It can be a little picky when you are throwing it through. Mine will usually throu within .2g. I just set it so I will not go over max even with a bit heavier charge.

I use it in 45, 9mm, 38 sp and it does great. 5 grains works just fine for me in 9 mm.

good luck

124 grain bullet, start at 4.8 grains of Unique and work up to 5.1 grains. I agree that 5.0 grains is a good safe load with most all bullets, not maximum with Unique and 124 grain bullets in 9MM. FMJ roundnose bullets seated to 1.150" works well in my 9's. Hollowpoint bullets seated to manufacturers recommended overall length.

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The High Road, nor the staff of THR assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.

I've loaded Unique with 124 gr plated bullets anywhere from 4.2 to 6.0 with the whole gamut of OALs. The "factory plinking load" is 4.8ish, IMO. Even 4.2 will reliably cycle most of my pistols.

Interesting that Alliant is downgrading Power Pistol. Prior manuals have listed 6.7gr as max with the 115gr bullet. Hmmmm....
