 I never planned on buying a 9mm. Lately I have been thinking it would be a cost efficient move right now. I have been looking online and I can't make up my mind I do like alot of Sigs, and SW3913,the Taurus PT911...From your hands on expierence which would be the best for accuracy, weight and competition, over all carrying. Thanks.

Do you already own a semiauto handgun that you could put a .22 upper half on? That's the least expensive solution.

If you don't have a semiauto handgun then you need to first focus on what points for you instead of other considerations. If you find that's a 1911 then the other questions become more meaningful. Same if you find that a CZ fits you best (or a Sig or a ...).

I wouldn't worry about the accuracy part...most production pistols these days are pretty accurate for what they are. You can squeeze more accuracy out with raceguns for competition, but that may compromise reliability for carrying.

Well, gotta first start with the question of "Plastic or metal"? Nothing wrong with either frame material, but I am not a fan of plastic because I can feel the recoil reverberations and it's unpleasant to me.

There is no shortage of choice in pistols of both types. I say go to a gun range and rent as many different ones as possible till you find one that you really like.

(And, btw, if I had the cash...I'd buy an STI Trojan in 9mm...9mm in 1911 goodness from a great company)

CZs, Beretta 92s, and Sigs are what I'm most interested in. That may very well be different for you.

That's kind of like asking, I want a car with a 6 cylinder engine, which one is best. :D You'll get lots of opinions, but you have to decide what fits you.

Accuracy and competition don't really fit with overall carrying, normally, but there are exceptions. My best guess would be a Sig P6/P225. It's smaller for carrying but still accurate. Of course, it's low capacity so that's bad for competition. Try a CZ-75, apparently they feel great to everyone on the planet except me and my tiny hands.

Just handle them all and see which one calls to you.

You can also buy a .22 upper half for a Sig (226 I believe), so that might be something to consider.

SIGs are reliable and accurate pistols but don't fit my hands. The S&W 3913 is an outstanding gun for concealment - compact, accurate, light and slim. I am also fond of the S&W M&P, Glock 19, and CZ PCR and P-01 compacts.

The 3913 is a very good option. My personal carry/do all gun is my S&W M&P9C. I've never had a weapon that fit my hand as well or did as many things as well as my M&P. Reliable, good capacity, easy to shoot well, safe, and accurate.

Dollparts I don't like to carry anything over 21oz BUT if you don't mind some added weight and most that you are look'n at are way over. Take a look at the witness line. For must of the line you can buy one caliber Say a 45acp and change the upper for 200bucks and slide a 9mm on it. Just a thought . I have a witness match and can change to 6 calibers .

I have a 9mm, a CZ 75 Sp01-Shadow.
It's a "sporting" model but feels great. I've tried some Berettas, Glocks, Walther but the CZ is a full sized yet great feeling gun.
It's extra foward weight keeps the 9x21 cartridge at ease, somehow...
Reliable, not a problem so far. Feeds, extracts, shoots accurate, but i had it from just a week now.

A must try if you have small hands, with factory grips. Mine has Hogue and adds some bulkyness to the grip.

yeah, im a .45 and .38 die hard but the .45auto pricing pushed me to adding a 9mm to the line up and went with an M&P9 Pro Series- really comfy and similar dimensions to my 1911s

I own three MP's, a FS 40 caliber and a 9mm compact and a MP 9 Pro. All great pistols, the compact is a great carry and fun range pistol (suprisingly accurate for a short barrel), love the 40 cal but you didn't ask about 40 cal. so...., the MP 9 Pro is my absolute favorite range pistol. Very accurate, great out of the box trigger, ergonomically perfect, nice fiber optic front sight, and smooth recoil control.
I also own a 9 mm CZ 75B in nickel that is my 2nd favorite range pistol. Great single action trigger and can be carried cocked and locked. I would love to have a CZ 75 Tactical Sport but I'm already gun poor so it probably won't happen.:uhoh:
You can't go wrong with a M & P or a CZ 75B in 9mm or any other caliber.

I own three 9mm's (Sig P226, SIG P6 and S&W 910). My SIG P226 and S&W 910 are super reliable, accurate and will eat anything (cast reloads, wolf etc). The P6 is reliable with FMJ. It is picky about JHPs, it DOES NOT like 115gr JHPs but it does like 147gr (especially wolf gold). Dollar for dollar S&W 3rd gen 9mm are underrated. If you want a CCW a single stack S&W might be the way to go!

9mm suggestions

The only single stack 9mm I have shot enough to develop confidence in is the H&K P7 (M8 or PSP, you pick....) It has been uber-reliable, VERY concealable, it is my preferred primary weapon on hot days where strapping on my Para CCW in .45 is just too much.

For double stack pleasure, Glock's 17 or 19 are very solid choices for carry and competition. Tons of accessories/parts/upgrades you can do as you want, but really don't need them as far as I'm concerned.

Just to make sure I don't "diss" the S&W folks, the ONLY M&P worth owning for competition is the M&P 9 Pro. Has a reasonable DA trigger, nice fiber optic front post and a sight radius long enough to have it perform acceptably at longer range shots. All the stuff that makes it good for competition will make it a challenge to carry if you are smaller framed.

I've played around with the Kel-Tec's and just about every other small/cheap option. They'll work fine, but just couldn't make myself confident when carrying them.

For a solid, all-around piece, I strongly suggest you look at and try the H&K before diving into anything new and "sexy"...

Good luck on your search!

PS Why not just buy one of all of them and carry what you feel like each day?????
