Does anyone on here have a reliable constant supplier for 9x18 mak ammo. I like shooting this but have a hard time finding ammo locally. Generally I'm looking for online suppliers

Thanks in advance.

9x18 mak

I have used Ammoman many times. They have 9x18 mak for $229 per 1k rds. Not exactly cheap but delivered price. They ship promptly.

j&g sales always has 9x18 mak for sale by 2 or more manufactures. their price is always fair. you can find them on line. azrn

Try Academy stores. They have a Monarch brand (russian ammo) that they sell for under $10/ box of 50

The Sportsmans Guide usually has at least one brand of the Russian stuff. The price is right but shipping cost has to be factored in to get a true figure.

I've bought cases of 9x18 from AIM in the past but shortly there after I bought 9x18 reloading dies.

Just a friendly reminder to stay away from the heavy 105 grain ammo - if there is still some out there. It is like shooting+P ammo and not all guns are safe with it. The wife's FEG wasn't . The 90-ish grain stuff is a lot more pleasant.

I've still got a bunch of the 120 and 115 grain Silver Bear. I won't use it in my Hungarian PA-63, Polish P64 or CZ 82/83 but I do use it in my Makarovs and I have 21 pound recoil springs in them.

I think this is why Hornady loads down their defense loads by 50 fps (at least the XTP was downloaded).

Reload. I've seen 1000 95 grain cast lad bullets for less than $40. You can also cut down 9MM cases to make brass if you cannot find 9x18.

Otherwise I buy factory ammo at Academy. It's the same as Barnul Brown Bear.

I cast my own for free, but trimming 9x19 is a PITA and my P64 chunks brass into the next county. I'd rather just shoot Monarch from Academy.

Ditto. I bought 5 boxes of PPU to reload until i realized i was lucky to recover 20% of my brass. My P64 throws brass 15', in every direction. This is the only caliber I don't load for. $10 boxes of Monarch at Academy Sports for me too.

I'm liking the 10$ box idea. I also have trouble recovering my brass. I am also wondering if 9x19 dies will work if you just screw them in farther?

I have never tried it, but the bullet diameter of a 9X18 is larger than a 9X19. I do trim 9X19 brass to make my 9X18 loads and size them with 9X18 mak dies.

No. The 9x19 is a tapered case. The 9x18 is a straight wall case. The 9mm bullet is .355 diameter and the Makarov bullet is .364-.365.

Trimming 9x19 to 9x18 works fine. The only problem is mixing the trimmed cases in with the 9x19.

Berry's plated bullets cost $87.63/1,000. This makes (good) 9x18 reloads cost about $6 a box of 50. (same with 9mm)
It takes about 8-10 minutes to load a box of handgun ammo on a Dillon press.

No. You'll need 9x18 dies.

I cast my bullets of range scrap which runs me less than 3 dollars a box for ammo. 9x19 is free at the range, too, usually come home with more than I left with. :D I'd still rather just spend 10 bucks for Monarch in this caliber, though, and not have to worry about trimming 9x19 all the time as I can never recover much of my fired brass. And, I have a Dillon Square Deal set up for 9x19. I shoot a lot of 9x19 so I never converted it to another caliber. 9x19 is really cheap now days. I bought that Dillon when I was shooting a lot of IDPA and practicing a lot more than I do now days. It's more'n paid for itself and it's like nothing to run off a box on it, takes little time out of my day. Takes more time to cast the bullets, but it's an enjoyable hobby. :D I load for a lot more calibers in rifle, shotgun, and pistol/revolver.

9X18

I do not follow how, on the one hand, there is advice given that says that we can cut down 9X19 brass and use it to make 9X18 Makarov cases and then on the other hand (and accurately) point out that the cases have different shapes (tapered vs. straight), the bullets (and thus the case mouths) have substantially different diameters. Plus, when we cut a case down, we end up dealing with a thicker wall at the mouth, making it harder to bell the mouth to accept that larger bullet. I know that it can be done but...
I have tried the conversion (Ken Howell references it in his "Custom Cartridges")....it ain't worth the work.

The expander ball in the sizer die expands the brass to caliber, that's a good thing. And, 9x19 bullets run up to 147 grains (long bullet requires deeper seating). No problem to stuff a 100 grain .364" bullet in a sized case to less depth even with a millimeter missing. Once the round fires, of course, if fire forms to the untapered 9x18 shape.

What's cool is that after you load the bullet, the case behind it is slightly smaller where the expander ball didn't reach. This helps fight any feed ramp set back. :D Actually, it works fantastic. I've done it. I know it works. Hey, I even load and fire form 7mmTCU in .223 brass. Yep, that .284 diameter bullet fits right in there after the expander ball necks it up to size.

ok

Well....I'll hafta give it another try. You make it sound appealling.
