A .50 BMG Question

I see on another thread here, that one of the congresscritters has introduced a bill to ban all sales of .50BMG guns to the general public.

So, since WWII, how many murders have been committed with this round? What percentage of all murders would that be? Or, what percentage of firearms caused murders?

Since I'm not a real web guru, I don't know where a guy would be able to get that info. And, for that matter, it's not material to the intent of the proposed legislation as far as I can see. I very much suspect that as a percentage, the answer to either question is: point zero-zero something. Which gives the lie to the argument that these guns are too dangerous to be in civilian hands.

The bill is meant to ban all large bore sniper rifles especially rifles that chamber the .50bmg such as the Barret m82.

And as far as my knowledge and memroy goes I do not remember or can think of any crimes commited with that rifle. its all hype.

S. 1330 proposes to classify .50 BMG rifles as destructive devices, not ban them outright. You could still buy, own and sell them, but you would have to deal with NFA paperwork and transfer taxes.

I read an article that was linked to from a thread here a while back from the DOJ or something like that. Murders comitted with rifles are already point zero zero something. Whittle it down to .50s and it would probably have a lot of zeroes before it. I don't think there's been more than 1 or 2 if any.

From what I remember, there's been maybe five shootings in previous years involving .50 BMGs over there, and maybe two of them involved it actually being fired, with (IIRC) no deaths attributed to that caliber gun.

These type of guns are too pricey for the average gang-banger. They are also much too cumbersome to be practical. This is strickly a knee-jerk, feel good attempt that will do nothing to reduce crime in the real world. It is also meant to, IMHO, get the gun-using sector accustomed to control legislation being passed. They are slowly turning up the heat on the frog.

This bill is all about keeping up with the Californicationists' laws banning such so that the Dim-wit-ocrats can hold on to the California-up vote next year.

While in the past I have toyed with the idea of getting a .50 BMG, I have never taken it overly serious...after all, remember, I have an electronic implant in my spine. If it looks like the bill may eventually pass, the gun-grabbers will have simply selected my next firearm.

Implant or not, I'll at least buy one. After all, my daughter doesn't have any reason that she and her future husband and my future grandkids can't shoot it. Some purchases are about the bigger future picture.

Oh how fondly I recall the day that I purchased my Romanian AK-47 in celebration of Nancy Putlousy. And given that I cared no more for the AK than the .50 BMG, I suspect that eventually, the California-up Dim-wit-ocrats will eventually compel me to purchase one.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the question. Each person who I have asked has been unaware of any .50 BMG ever having been used in a criminal way. Unfortunately, you like I, tend to confuse fact with bias. Our trivial facts are powerless against political bias.

IIRC there was one armored car robbery in which the guards were threatened with an M2 and chose not to rely on their armor - I believe there were no injuries and arrests followed. I could be wrong.

They just don't want the people to have anything that can resist agents wearing level III-IV body armor, using light armored vehicles. It does not matter if it is single shot, bolt action or semi. If they cannot put something on that makes them impervious to it, then it is too powerful.

Honestly I think zoogster hit the nail on the head. They know crimes aren't comitted with .50bmg rifles. They are worried that if the 2A is ever used for it's intended purpose it would be very effective against domestic enemies of the people (whomever that may be).

If only that was the least of it. One can find information on the internet showing a person how to convert their .50 BMG into something so powerful they can Destroy the Moon!!! I will not go into details, as I do not want to help any gun nutz get a hold of that info.

We all know that the gun grabbers don't care about the facts and truth. They just rely on made up statistics and lies all around to accomplish their goals, so it doesn't matter to them if it has never been used in any crime or not, they just have a fear of private gun ownership and will do whatever they can to stop it. It doesn't matter what the gun is or the size of the bullet.
