Today I FINALLY managed to sneak down to the range to take advantage of my membership.

With the Rose City Gun show going, we had the range to ourselves, and I proceeded to start breaking my M&P .40 in.

I've been mostly a Revolver man, (Typically in Single action), readjusting my grip after cocking the gun, and a trigger with zero travel before the break is what I've built my habits on.

As you can see... Our poor neighbor here has had one hell of a day.

All shots are standing, unrested.

Everything below the neck is from the Schofield replica, at COM at 50' , I typically place the first shot then attempt to group around that one. (I forgot my Pen, I typically number each set from behind to keep track. I'll do better next time)

The M&P gave me some serious getting used to.

The first 30 rounds make that nice hole 6 inches to the left of the fellow's ear, leaving the head untouched. I wheeled the target back, then spent a few minutes breathing, and dry firing.

I realized that I had my finger too far through, and each pull was twisting me to the left. I pulled the finger in to bring it straight back without any deviation.

The next 30 rounds removed the left ear, and Trepanned away any residual headaches the Poor thing might have been feeling.

100 rounds, no failures or misfires, all rounds went cleanly over my right, and piled up behind me after hitting the Curtain. (Magtech FMJ)

Sometimes, all it takes is a step back, a bit of thought, and the worst shooting of your life to get you to clean your act up.

Anyone else with good miracle turnaround stories after noticing their own mistakes ?

Having a trigger with travel was making me Twitch. A LOT.

made me laugh that I'd cut a head-and-shoulders outline next to the head.

tried off hand , bad left hand couldn't maintain grip with the sharp .40.. The .45 is much kinder to my weak arm.

Tomorrow it's gallon milk jugs of water and "Test our defensive Hollowpoint rounds for (Tee Heeee) science" day.

This target helps me figure out what I'm doing with my grip, trigger control, etc. It's a free download and prints on a standard sheet of paper so give it a try.

Good luck.
