THR Members,
I’ve been lurking for awhile and I decided I would introduce myself and try to contribute something at the same time. I’m still very new to politics, but I lean towards Libertarian and conservative views. I’m currently stationed at Hill AFB in Utah and serving my third year of enlistment. Hopefully I’ll be able to re-train soon and move overseas. I’ve been married for two and a half years and have a daughter that will turn two at the end of April. Well, on to the gun related stuff.
I purchased my first hand gun about 6 weeks ago and I’ve put 150 rounds of WWB down range. The gun is a CZ40B.
The first reason I decided on this particular gun was price. I don’t have very much money to spend on guns so I had to keep it as close to $300 as possible. My only choices were The Ruger Gp-100 and P97, and the CZ40B. After doing some research and reading a few articles and a little gun shop fondling I decided on the CZ. I had never fired the gun before I bought it and that made me a little nervous, but all of my fears were unfounded. The pistol fits my hand very well, the length to the trigger is almost to the extent of my reach but is still comfortable and I feel like it gives me a little more control with my trigger pull. The gun is very easy to disassemble for cleaning. The only problem I have with it is that the sights are a little hard for me to see. It takes longer for me get sight acquisition than I like, but maybe over time I’ll get accustomed to it. Accuracy was good, for me that is. I kept all of the shots in one ragged hole about 4â€x4†form10 to 15 yards, but any further than that and I started to suck it up. This will be my CCW when I get my license and I think it’s a good choice.
Fit is good from what my inexperienced eye can tell? At first I thought the machining on the barrel was sloppy. The grinding marks were coarse and uneven, but after examining a couple of other guns I found this to typical. I really like the polycoat finish. I’ve seen many people complain about the DA trigger pull, but I don’t really see why. It’s heavy, but it’s supposed to be isn’t it? If you find it to be too heavy you can always carry cocked and locked, or at half cock which is what I plan to do. I’ve had no feed failures or failure to lock the slide yet, but I haven’t put that many rounds though it. In the end I think the CZ40B is a on of the best handguns under $400 on the market.
Hopefully someone will benefit from my very amateur review. I would have liked to use various kinds of ammo, but alas I’m only an E-4 and do not have the funds. I look forward to some good discussions, I’ve seen many that I want to contribute to, but I wanted this to be my first post. Thanks for your time.
