Today there was a shooting. It’s already labeled as a mass shooting and is all over the news. Plenty of information has come out but one thing stands out to me in this situation, and that’s the back end of this exerpt from the LA Times.

“Davis confirmed that the suspect was dead but did not elaborate on the cause of death. He did not say what type of gun was used.”

The news normally is all over what kind of gun is used so that they can demonize the gun and the gun maker. This is one situation where that has not happened and I honestly feel that we should provide positive comment to both the law enforcement community and to the media outlets that refrain from publishing what guns were used. If we let it be heard that at least some people don’t want to hear it and that we want the blame centered on the actor rather than the tool then perhaps we will see this a bit more frequently.

These events are terrible, tragic, and horrible in every way, but at least this one so far doesn’t seem like it’s being used against the “gun community” at least not yet. We should latch on to the bright spots when we can and try to steer future media publications down the road of not reporting specifics on the gun itself.

The President is all over it.
I refuse to call him that. He is merely the Resident of the Whitehouse.

And the dimwits around him are just clapping and yelling praises. Of course they don’t know what an assault weapon is, because if they described it then they would be expected to do something actually beneficial about them. The more of a show of idiocy that there is the less there is of an expectation to get meaningful progress done, and the more excuse there is for blanket actions (overreach) like banning “assault weapons” without understanding or defining them they can throw the term around and decide later on what it means.

I’m preaching to the choir and getting off topic. Y’all know the deal... rant over.
