I took my CHL class in Louisiana and moved to Louisiana shortly after that. I have my Texas licence and all that so Im ready to get my Texas chl. I was wondering is Texas would honor my class like Florida would have?

Would it look strange if I were to get a FL CCW permit with a Louisiana class for the state of Texas?

You need to take a class from a Texas DPS certified handgun instructor for a Texas CHL.

Roadwild, the states with which I'm familiar that require a CWP class require that it be given by an instructor it certfied who teaches a course it certified. Part of the justification is that such courses tend to cover state laws, which vary from state to state.

Once you get your own state's resident permit, though, the chances are that at least some other states will issue you a non resident permit based on it. An exception, I think, is Utah which I believe requires that everyone take the course from a Utah-certified instructor no matter where it is given.

Some fun, huh?

You should be fine for a Florida non-resident permit. That would be legally fine and recognized by Texas. The La. class would be acceptable by Florida.

I am not a lawyer, but that's my understanding.

MudPuppy is right. I had a Florida permit here in Texas for a couple of years before getting a real Texas permit. They (FL) will take just about anything as proof of training.
