I heard that S&W had recently switched to a Dan Wesson-esque barrel system. Does this mean I can buy barrels and switch them myself or are the still affixed in such a way that I'd have to send it to a gunsmith?

Also, how are the Ruger SP101 barrels attached? I know you can get 9mm cylinders for a Smith .38/357 and swap them around pretty much at will. Can you do this with the SP101?

Does anyone pocket-carry the Smith M60 or Ruger SP101 (I know they're heavy and most people think it's hard)? Does anyone pocket carry a revolver with a hammer? Is it really going to snag on the draw from a pocket?

I ask because I think a Smith M60 with a 2in barrel and 9mm cylinder would be great for pocket carry while a M60 with a 5in barrel and 357 would be great for a walking-around-in-the-woods gun. Alternatively, replace M60 with sp101 because I really like how that pistol disassembles. I'd like to get one gun and have it serve double duty so (a difficult proposition, I know), if there's another out there that fits, tell me about it.

I carry my pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 60 in both jacket and trousers pockets now and then. The hammer doesn't snag if I grip the gun to avoid that potential problem.

Having bought a Ruger a couple years ago, I wouldn't even consider staking my life on one.

Switching around barrels and cylinders is not an easy proposition in any way and even the parts are not that easy to come by. getting aRuger or Smith set up in this way would cost so much money that you'd be able to buy several guns to perform any function you wanted.

Pocket carry of an SP-101 requires one heck of a pocket in my estimation although I'm sure people do it. The hammer snag thing all depends on your draw and clothing, with your thumb on the hammer it'll usually slide free fairly easily with a decent sized pocket opening.

I have no problem trusting any of my Rugers (8) with any job required of a handgun.
