A couple of new Ruger LCR's

Just bought a couple of new Ruger LCR's, one in 22 LR and the other in 38 spl. The 22 shoots great but the extractor at least half the time doesn't extract one or two cases. The trigger as expected is heavier than the 38. The velocities seem a bit lower than a S&W 317 of same barrel length but sights are much better than the S&W. Anybody else have the extractor problem on their 22 ? I have only fired 15 rounds through the 38, 10 at a target and 5 through the chronograph. The 10 at the target grouped better than the 22 but were about 3 inches low at 20 ft using 125 grain copper plated bullets. The five through the chronograph clocked at 838, 848, 832, 821, 821. Upon looking at the sights I noticed the 38 has a higher front sight. What I am wondering now is would the 38 hit higher with 158 grain bullets ?

FWIW my .38 LCR really prefers lead 158's. Esp LRN's. Go figure, that's the same round my old Police Positive Special preferred.

What's your extraction problem? Do the cases not come out, or do they come out only to get caught under the star?

I was taught to extract with the muzzle straight up, to allow the cases to fall free. Smaller cases seem to be more troublesome because of their lighter weight.

My usual habit is to cup my left hand under the gun, thumb pointing in the same direction as the barrel. Press the cylinder release with the right thumb, press the cylinder out with the left fingertips, point my thumb straight up and press the ejector rod. Probably not the best technique if you are concerned with speed reloads, but it works nicely at the range.

Mike -- The cases end up almost extracted under the star and I end up fishing them out with my car keys. I have never had this problem with my S&W 317 and the cases are much harder to extract to the point I carry a small block of wood to press the extractor. By best guess as to the LCR problem is it has larger cylinder bores that allow the case to cock just enough during extraction that the star loses it's grip one the case. What seems to work best for me is to press the cases out slowly.

For me, CCI cases stick, but Blazer doesn't. Have you tried different ammo yet?

momano - They don't really stick, it's just the extractor loses it's grip on them just before they fall free but no I have only been shooting Federal bulk pack from Walmart so far

when you eject the rounds do you turn the gun pointg upwards and pust the ejection rod or what? it does make a big difference.

whtsmoke - Yes I do and I think if I could hold the cylinder perfectly vertical I would have less extraction failures.

Sounds like something is not right. I'd try another brand of ammo and call ruger if the problem persists.

Barrel up, cylinder open, give te ejector rod a good rap with your palm and the empties should pop out with no stickies. Don't be afraid to rap the ejector rod with some force, no sense continuing a ejector sequence that doesn't clear the empties.
