I've been searching online for answers to a couple questions and have not been able to find them so I thought I would ask here. I've read topics on here from time to time and everyone here seems pretty knowledgeable so hopefully someone will be able to help me.

My first question is about the sights. I am not a big fan of Sig's "combat sights." I learned to shoot with a 1911 and would much rather use the sight picture they use. I believe I have heard it called a 6 o clock sight picture. My question is, can I change my gun from using combat sight picture to 6 o clock sight picture and if so does it require anything more than different size sights? I plan on upgrading to night sights anyway so when I get nights sights for it I would like to also do this if it is possible. If changing the sights is all I need to do, what size should I have put on the gun? It is chambered in 40 S&W.

My second question is about the grips. My 229 has E2 grips but they are a bit too small for my hands. What I'm wanting to know is can I change them out for a set of Hogue rubber grips without changing any other parts on the gun? I've found answers to this going both ways. One website I read said the trigger spring I believe it was had to be changed while another site I read said nothing had to be changed out but the grips.

Thanks for any information you can give me on these two questions.

First the sights. Sigs use a #8 front and rear on the 9mm and a #6 front and #8 rear for the .40

You would have to find a sight manufacture to help you figures out the sights heights and supply them to you. It would be easier for you to learn to shoot with the combat sight picture. It isn't rocket science. Just figure out where to hold your front sight. You have to do this with any new gun anyway.

The grips are easy. The grip screw threads are waiting for you under the E2 grips. Buy your Hogues and some grip screws and you should be good to go as long as you have the E2 grip removal tool.

SIG makes different height (numbered) front and rear sights that are changeable. The higher the number, the higher the POI. What I don't remember is how much the POI changes with the change in number. FOR EXAMPLE whether an increase in one number (#6 to #7) raises the POI by 1" or 1/2". I believe the amount of change is different for the front versus the rear sight. In theory, a change in the POI with the same sight picture will yield the same POI with a different (desired?) sight picture, if the sight changes are done correctly. These SIG sights are available at Top Gun Supply, but Midawy and Brownells may also sell them for around $30 for each individual sight. A sight pusher will be needed to properly change them out.

As for the grips, I believe maddy345 is correct. The E2 grips need changes (different style mainspring, trigger bar spring, and decocking lever), but I am pretty sure those new parts are backward compatible with the older style grips, including the Hogues. The grip frame is the same, but you will need grip screws.

There are replacement front sight blades (5; #05-#09) and rear sights (6; #05-#10) that are available to adjust your Point Of Impact (POI). The front sights move you POI 1", for each increment, at 25 yards, while the rear sights move your POI 2". It is usually done by adjusting your rear sight first.

You'll have to shoot your 229 and determine how far you want to move the POI...remember that you should adjust based on your POI from a rested position and that you shouldn't make a change smaller than your ability to group

The E2 229 mainspring and strut will work with current after market grips that attach with grip screws
