Thought Id try .40 caliber. Im looking at a used Beretta model 96M in good shape and a new CZ40 the one with the Colt 1911 grip. Like them both but can only get the one , any idea which one?

Both are stellar guns and just like the last poster stated...its up to which you like better. The CZ has less aftermarket support.
The CZ40B was a limited success..they still offer the gun but it didnt take off like they expected it too.....
A Compact 40 is coming out this year from CZ. A CCW designed gun...alloy frame/melted etc....
Either way youll be happy...just get the one you like.
Shoot well

CZ40 vs. B 96

I bought a CZ40 just before Christmas last year for $287.00 from a local dealer.

Was on the fence between a CZ40 & CZ75-SA. Went w/ the CZ40 because of rumers of once they are gun-they-are-gone and like the history of them (Colt partnership) and felt very good in hands.
DA is a bit long, but the SA is very sweet.
Short story: guy @ range shooting a Kimber Ultra Carry II ask's what gun is? Tell him CZ40 and let him try it. Comments on how he likes the SA trigger & shootability. Let's me shoot his $1000.00 Kimber (also a VERY sweet shooter; better be a $grand)

Have been very pleased w/ the gun and feel that it is probably the best 'value' out there.
Still plan on a CZ75-SA 9mm later when do-able.

Both are good guns. Esp if the 96 is made in Italy. Price would prob favor the 40B. A gun that is discontinued, but we hear of no
major problems with them. Anything that would break. 75B parts
will fit. As for carry, the 40B will prob be lighter than the 96.

I'm not 40 fan. I've owned a few but sold them all off a few years ago. But, of the bunch I owned, my favorite was the Beretta 96. Most accurate, mildest shooting of the bunch .

i've had both and would offer these observations

the CZ has:
1. lower bore line
2. smaller grip/reach to trigger
3. better SA out of the box (at least mine did)
4. lower price
5. more heft (steel frame)

my 96 was:
1. more accurate
2. smoother in operation
3. flawless in feeding and ejection

i traded the CZ for a smith 696 and had the beretta tuned for use as my duty gun

CZ 100%. I'd lean towards the .40 S&W version of the CZ-75B rather than the CZ40, but that's just personal preference.

Thanks a lot, but you people are no help. Sounds like a win / win situation. I think I am leaning for the CZ:
1. $ less
2. New in box
3. Love my CZ 75B.
But,
The Beretta
1. Feels great
2. Proven ttrack record
3. Although used has box, mags, etc.

One to buy, one to lay away. Best to you all, Flinch

Beretta makes fine guns but I prefer and bought the CZ75 in 40 S%W and really like it a bunch.
Can't ask for a better gun....and I was looking at a SIG at the time. Saved a pretty penny on the deal. Like the acuracy and the way the gun comes up.

The CZ40 has an alloy frame and looks sorta like a 1911, but other than that it's just a .40SW CZ75, internally. I own a cz75 PCR and I had a 75BD, both are absolutely excellent guns. Never really have been impressed with berettas, the few times I've shot them, though they are nice to look at. Go for that CZ!

im no fan of the .40 (mainly b/c of the price of ammo) but the 96 is so sweet. lots of parts are available, it looks awesome and shoots great. cant comment on the CZ but wont be disappointed should you decide to buy the beretta.

BTW, i would not pay one penny extra for an italian version. YMMV

Like they say, whichever you do well with. I'd go CZ, the Beretta is just "too big" for me although the 9x19 slide action is smooth as butter.

9mm: You picked up a 696?? You turkey, I wanted one but waited too long. Congrats.

:D
