A fair price for a M59/66?

I have the opportunity to purchase a Yugoslavian M59/66 still in the cosmoline. But I have a few concerns.

My most pressing concern is that the owner said this SKS shoots great. But it's still drenched in cosmoline, so... am I safe to say it's peachy if there's no carbonized gunk in the gas tube and barrel?

Also, the stock seems like it's seen some use but may clean up well. However the metal and bluing seems to look perfect under the cosmoline.

I have looked down the barrel with a bore light and it does appear to have a mirror bright bore with strong rifling.

I've been offered the rifle for $200. Does this sound fair? My only experience with SKS carbines were Norincos back in the early 90's.
The owner is putting together an AR and is scrambling for funds. He's even throwing in 4 or 5 boxes of Monarch 7.62x39 to sweeten the deal (maybe $20 worth of ammo?).

Thanks in advance!

If he said it shoots great but it's still covered in cosmoline, he's BSing you. However, I'd rather buy an SKS in cosmo than already fired. It's probably in great shape.

$200 is a great deal. Going rate for them these days is usually $250-$350 depending on location. I'd jump on that.

Well ok then, I pulled the trigger (*ahem*) and took the rifle. Numbers all seem to match during further inspection and many of the dents now appear to have simply been globs of semi-dried cosmoline. Not to say the stock is pristine because it certainly isn't, but with some work, I think it will pretty up a bit.

It's all a sticky mess, but I think $200 was fair.

Good deal. Glad for you.

Yep, that was a good deal for sure. Now make sure you take the right first step of completely stripping it down and getting all that cosmoline out, before you even think about firing it. That will improve your chances of having a great Yugo SKS experience!

$200.00 is an excelent price today for one with matching serial numbers. And it will clean up nicely.
