I've got a few questions for you CZ guys:

First, what is a CZ SP-01 as opposed to a P-01?

Second, I like the P-01.. I wish it were offered in .40. Is there any rumors of that being available someday? I realize the .40 compact is really close but it is only available in the 'safety' version, not the 'decocker' version I prefer. Is there any rumors of the .40 compact being offered with a decocker?

Last, somewhere I saw a P-01 in an olive finish that looked very factory. Could it have been or was it someone's aftermarket paint job?

Thank you!

The SP-01 is a "full sized" pistol. The P-01 is a 'Compact' version.
http://www.czub.cz/ Click on 'Products', then pistols, standard and compact.
.40 S&W is an American calibre that isn't readily available everywhere in the world. 9mm is.

CZ SP-01 is the same thing as a 75B, with a full front shroud.

You want a P01 in .40? Get the 40P. Same exact frame, but different slide (from the 40B). It does have a decocker. They don't cost as much as 'regular' CZ's due to the frankengun status. I'm selling mine if you're interested...the trigger is all warmed over now.

P01 olive...yup, aftermarket.

There's also the option of the CZ 75 Compact .40. Same frame and top end with two exceptions. First, the frame is steel and not alloy. Second, It's not a decocker, but a safety that will allow cocked and locked carry.

I have both and I've carried both.

I don't think so... A friend of mine bought an olive P-01, new from the dealer. I tried to get one myself but he was unable to locate it for me. He was told they ran a very small number of these. (possibly a limited run for one distributor?)
I ended up getting a standard black model. Very nice pistol. Fits my hand well. Points well too. I can't shoot it worth a damn. I can't seem to get used to the trigger. Too much time with 1911s.

Sp01

If you want something to shoot at the range, then the SP01 wins hand down. It is a fullsize all steel gun. I believe the SP01 has night sights.

If you want a concealed carry piece, then the P01 is what you'd want.

Green frame Po1 is a short run factory thing. CZ does that once in a while....wish I could nab one of the stainless CZ 75 Compacts they made last year, REAL short run...2.
SP01 is a full size duty pistol with 18 round magazine, many of the same features as my PO1. The Compact 40 has been advertised since 2000, and finally showed up, and we still wait for the Compact Carry, a 40 Compact "melted" with decocker. Don't know if that will ever show up.
The 40P is a nifty pistola, with PO1 frame and 40B slide, very popular, available from J&G for about $300. I'd snag one if I could.
BTW, if you have trigger issues, try decocking the PO1 to the standard half cock - that's where it's meant to ride, and mine shoots fantastic.

P01 with Natural Birch Grips by Hakan. A set of Flame Birch is on the way. This is a very accurate, reliable and versitile handgun.

wow...the P01s and the 40p are very nice...might just have to go looking for one..

any more photos of either??

I really wanted an alloy frame compact .40 CZ too. So I just bought a 40P! The trigger wasn`t as good as my 75B but after some dry firing and few thousand rounds it`s pretty darn nice. Super reliable and accurate too. Mine wears an M3 light most of the time. Get one while you can. You can get flush fit mags or use 12rd. hi caps, they`ll just stick out a bit. The Novak-ish sights BTW allow the sight radius of a full sized gun on a compact slide and are the same ones used on the Colt Defender (they`re marked Colt Defender underneath!) if you ever want to replace them with tritium night sights. Not exactly. The SP-01 only comes as a decocker versions (75BD) the original 75B is capable of being carried cocked'n'locked. If they would offer an alloy-framed 75B with a rail that was able to be carried hammer back/safety on I would be first in line for one. Until then....the SP-01 is a beautiful gun, just not for me.

W..
Actually the SP01 comes both ways..as a Decocker version and a DA/SA version. It is considerably heftier than a full size 75b because of the full length dustcover..but still not bad as a carry piece. An alloy version of the SP01 or 75b would be very cool.

Here is a photo of one of SP01s
